Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone has experienced a red rash developing years after radiotherapy?
I have developed a rash on the radiation site that started small but has spread over the last 6 months. I had a biopsy which was clear, and breast surgeon just said “oh yes I’ve seen that before it’s from the radiation”. I am eager to hear from anyone who has experienced similar as I am wondering how this is going to progress and if I should be doing anything to treat it.
Many thanks & happy new year to you all xx
Hello, googled it as it is called radiation recall dermatitis. You can find out about it there and personally I can’t recommend anything as dont have it. Hope you can get it resolved.

Hi Barbara,
thank you for replying & taking the time to google it. I had checked Google but I couldn’t find anything that showed how it progressed and any treatments. Some of the recall looks very severe so I’m really hoping it doesn’t progress that far.
I have my annual appointment with the Oncologist in a few weeks so hopefully I will get some more information then.
Best wishes for 2025!
Glad you have an appointment as it is good to discuss and get a treatment plan. Take care and keep us posted on your progress.

This is interesting to me. I finished 19 sessions of radiotherapy at the end of March 2024, so I’m only 9 months “post”. Nasty burn over collarbone, not bad over breast but I didn’t blister, used a lot of moisturiser and all settled. Kept covered and factor 50 sunscreened, However the “tan lines” have reappeared in the last 8 weeks or so along with incredibly dry peeling skin on my shoulder and upper back on my right side- same side as tumour.
I’m a year into Letrozole, 8 months into abemaciclib so I can’t be sure what’s doing it, but the dry itchy skin is on and behind where the radiotherapy was. I’ve got a 3 month review in mid Jan for the abemaciclib, so I’ll start inquiries then and keep greasing up in the meantime.
All the best xx
