Anti sickness pills

I'm just wondering what anti sickness pills people take during chemo. I've been prescribed Domperidone  and I would say they are partially effective. I've only had two chemo sessions and my nausea lasted two days the first time and two and a half days this time but it felt worse then the first time. No one likes feeling nausea but I absolutely hate it and fret about it. I wondered if my expectations are too high to expect it to be completely resolved post treatment..

  • Am on the same anti sickness tablets as you. I have 4th sessions of chemotherapy and the nausea is getting worse tablets are not doing much to help and my appetite has completely gone, I’ve struggling even to eat dry crackers just to put something into my stomach am just drinking as much water as I can x

  • Hi Dee Dee

I suggest that you ring your chemo nurse or you're chemo unit and tell them that the anti-nausea tablets are not working and they should be able to prescribe you something else.

  • Hello,

Ive always been a vomiter when ever any bug or nerves I was sick, but during my chemo they controlled it really well. I had ondansetron, for first few days ( can make you constipated) and levomepromazine ( makes you sleepy) but I never felt particularly sick, and I didn’t vomit. Now my targeted therapy makes me nauseous and cyclizine twice a day helps with that. - steroids help to, but as daisy53 said, tell your team, they have loads of options, don’t suffer, tell them. Hope they get the right combo x

  • I'm probably a bit late in answering but I'm on Metoclopramide for the 1st 5 days of each cycle. I'm on Paclitaxel and still experiencing nausea but not as bad as EC.

It does work for me, after about 20 minutes after taking it.

I hope you find what works for you x

  • Thank you for your replies. I spoke with my oncologist and he is going to add Olanzipine to the mix . It's an anti psychotic used off label for chemo nausea and huge weight gain is a side effect. Luckily I will only be on it for a couple of days a week!

  • Fingers crossed glad you spoke with oncologist x

  • Hello can i ask did your nausea start immediately? I had my first chemo on Tuesday but didn’t feel sick until yesterday, it’s horrible! I was hoping i had struck a lucky miracle when my first L few days were ok

  • Hi. Sorry that your feeling sick, it is really horrible feeling ( I prefer to actually be sick than feel it Confounded)

I didn’t feel sick much with chemo they controlled it well, but I do remember sitting next to a lady that said she never felt sick to day 5.  It’s kind of no one rule fits all. So I say see how it is tomorrow and contact the team if you need something, take what you have now, cause no need to feel sick if they can stop it xxx

If you haven’t got anti-sickness or would rather something ‘natural’  when I did feel sick, a ginger biscuit or pineapple tea made me feel less so.  Wish there was a simple answer to give

  • Thanks Whynot, I’ll try all

those things now. I guess I’m hesitant to take so many drugs but might have to.

  • Hi,  sorry you are feeling nauseous.  That is rough. Have you looked into the anti nausea wrist bands that put pressure on an area in the wrist that helps with nausea.  Acupressure.  I have used when I fly and also when I had migraines with nausea in the past and worked great.
    Better than taking drugs.
