Hi all

I had a mastectomy 3 weeks this Friday went and seen my breathing nurse today everything looks good and happy with it.i had wide spread dcis today when talking to breast nurse she said they will look for invasive cancer as I had alot of dcis and sometimes it can hide it .just wondering as anybody had this and what treatment you received just trying to get prepared.

Many thanks

  • Hi Scouse4 welcome to the forum. DCIS can sometimes spread outside the ducts so they may have meant that?  That said they will test the whole Breast to check for that. It's difficult to be specific about treatments until all the pathology results come back and Cancer is staged and graded.

  • Hi,

My biopsy result was DCIS and 'suspicious of invasion', but they couldn't confirm. When they removed the whole tumour and tested this, they were able to confirm invasive cancer was present, 15mm of it.

The next step was a further operation to take a sample from my lymph nodes under my arm to check if the invasive cells had travelled there.

They hadn't, so my treatment was 5 days radiotherapy and 5 years of anastrolzole.

If they find cancer cells in the lymph nodes, then they may consider chemotherapy, but difficult to think ahead, as so many variables around test results and different treatments.

It is a really long drawn out process to get to the stage where you know all your results and your final treatment plan. But, you will get there.

    Good luck.
