Has anyone heard of manuka honey trials that indicates that as a supplement Manuka honey may provide some degree of protection for hormone positive breast cancer ?
Is anyone taking it ?

  • Hi. I have heard that Manuka honey does have a component that can protect against hormone positive breast cancers. I have been having manuka honey every day in hot water and lemon.

I’m not aware of any supplements. Always best to take the pure stuff as supplements can have plastics in them.

  • My husband read up on this when I  was first diagnosed and I've been having it in my green tea!

Suppose we will never know if its going to work but worth a try.

  • It’s definitely worth a try! Keeping adding it to your green tea (which is also fantastic) but green tea isn’t recommended when on chemo.

  • Is it not!! Didn't know that. Thanks. I used to drink about 6 cups of black coffee a day - I now have water and 1-2 green teas!

  • No my oncologist told me before I started! I have so many green teas in my cupboard! I think it’s because it’s high in antioxidants which may interact with the chemo drugs.

  • Thanks Sparkle,

I normally take honey with natural yogurt and berries for breakfast, so I am going to change to Manuka.  Anything that might give me any additional help over and above my treatment is worth trying.

  • Thanks for replying ACharge80,

I only saw about the Manuka honey research yesterday on another BC group I am on.  I am going to try it, even if it does no good, it can’t do any harm.  I am starting my radiotherapy tomorrow and it makes me feel a bit more positive that I am giving myself every chance to reducing the possibility of me having to go through this again.

  • Yes definitely change to manuka. I just get the one from Aldi, I know there are higher strength ones though but they can be up to £50!
