Hi everyone, I had a mastectomy with diep flap reconstruction about 12 days ago. I am having a bit of an issue with the stomach wound at the moment. The wound is from hip to hip and most of it has healed beautifully. However, there is a small section about an inch long, that just won't heal and is oozing a yellow puss like substance. I am cleaning and redressing daily and am on antibiotics. I am due back in clinic, but not sure what else they can do. Has anyone had any issues similar to this, post surgery and what did they do to solve the problem?
Hi Daisy24
After her hysterectomy Janice's wound dehisced - basically reopened. When she came home she had quite a bit open wound that was very messy - almost to the point of making the nurse gag when they changed the dressing.
They used Alginate dressings and it took a while but it was really quite amazing to watch as the wound closed.
<<hugs>>
Steve
Thank you Steve, it's very reassuring knowing that there are other dressings that could help. The trouble I'm having is that since chemo, I seem to react badly to a lot of the dressings they put on me. The waterproof tape they used after surgery caused me to blister. They put on a clear waterproof dressing which also irritated. I now use these only for showering, then swap to a mepore dressing, which I seem ok with. I have been so worried that I may have to go back in for surgery, to sort it out. Sorry to hear that Janice had such a hard time with wound healing. Good to hear that they sorted something out to help her heal. Xx
Hi Meadow15, I went for a wound check yesterday and feel much more reassured. I had been worried that yellow areas around the wound were infected, even though I'd had a 7 day course of antibiotics. However, they said this is just the scab trying to form but is taking longer due to the oozing. Like you, they dressed in a strip of inadine, to help it heal. I have to do this daily and have another appointment next week. Thank you for taking the time to reply. Xx
