Sorry a slight freak out message incoming
had lumpectomy last week and snb. Surgeon just told me he needs to go back in as one margin wasn’t clear and 1 node was positive for cancer.
I’m devasted. I thought it was caught early and I’d have the operation and radiotherapy and be done. Now I’m having a massive reality check. It’s like I’ve only just realised that I have cancer.
Now I have to have another operation to remove the margin - but now I’m wondering if I’d be better to have a mastectomy?
They suggest radiotherapy for the lymph and boob anyway
and now talk of chemotherapy subject to testing.
has anyone been through similar . Please help if so I’m pretty scared now. Having been so strong
haven’t told anyone yet
Thankyou
Hi c22
You haven't replied daftly :) It was me being daft, I read the title of your post and then concentrated on your question re a 2nd lumpectomy rather than the type of cancer you've been diagosed with. Mine wasn't lobular, it was dcis and when that was removed they found a her2 positive lump amongst the tissue.
Many apologies if I confused you

No worries just Thankyou for replying
question - one week post lumpectomy my boob still feels lumpy I mean I feel like I can still feel something there. Of course there is something there which he has to take out next week but is the lumpiness normal bruising don you think?
my head taking me to/ it’s still all there
plus I gave back ache - not going to tell you where my heads at with that. Trying to rationalise it as spending too much time lying down and make my estrogen levels crashing post stopping hrt
it’s not sharp bad back ache just like sore muscles I think
ok - wittering now!
Hi c22, thank you for posting. Sorry to hear that you've found yourself in this position.
I too begun with a much 'lighter' treatment plan. I have learned over the months that things can quickly/slowly shift and change in this strange breast cancer universe.
I'm 11wks post bilateral surgery, with left mastectomy and right lumpectomy + sentinel node biopsy on both sides. I had DCIS in the left, grade 3, and a small invasive lobular area in right, which was only discovered on MRI.
The was a micromestastesis <1cm in my first left lymph node. This counts as a negative, so I didn't need lymph node clearance. All margins were clear.
Due to grade 3 and micromestastesis, and following Oncotype DX score, I have now begun chemotherapy. 4 x EC, followed by 12 of Paclixatel.
After much thought, I have made the personal decision to complete my treatment with a right mastectomy following chemotherapy. My main concern is how tricky lobular cancer can be to detect. I don't want to live with that worry. Also, as with all treatments, radiotherapy brings its own risks. So, I have agreed with my team to take this path. There was no opposition and frankly, I feel I should have been offered this option before I had surgery.
I will then have a delayed reconstruction, at some point. I find that my breasts as they were, are gone. This is all about making the best of an awful situation.
I wish you well with your ongoing treatment. Take time time to process, discuss and ask questions of your treatment team. You will get through.
Sending hugs, Shaka
Hi shaka
for what it’s worth I totally get your thinking on removing the breast. Especially with lobular. My surgeon seems unwilling to consider this even though he didn’t get clear margins
I feel like it’s so evasive how will we ever know if it comes back
But he seems to think survival rates don’t really change with a mastectomy. I think it’s about the head space it takes up
there are such excellent reconstruction options now as well
how are you finding the chemotherapy?? How long do you expect it to take??
good luck to you you sound amazingly brave and determined xx
