Hi I’m super nervous and anxious. I have my 1 st chemo session on Thursday and I’m not sure if there is anything I should do to prepare for it should I eat before ? I start at 8.15am and not normally a breakfast eater. Do you need to wear warm clothing ? Do I take a blanket in case I get cold. I’m also having a cold cap can you wear earphones with it ? If so what type are best over the ear or ear buds.
everything just keeps running through my head and worrying how bad I will feel after. Any help with advice would be great
thank you x
Do what you would prefer...take a snack if you like and a favourite blanket...I was given blankets and a heating pad to help me...I found the headache from cold not good but I took my own paracetamol (with permission)...clothes depends on where they are giving the treatment...most hospitals are not too cold. Sorry no idea about earbuds etc...wasn't for me
I had a little chuckle to myself when reading your post as when I went to my first chemo session I hardly took anything and by my 8th session I had a whole bagful . Take something good to read/ keep you amused as depending on your treatment you could be there a while. I always took a big scarf that could double up as a blanket. Some sweets like fruit pastilles are good as sometimes you get a weird taste from the drugs. On the food front, I always took a bag of snacks, water and a sandwich with me, it’s really normal for people to be snacking away during their treatment. And for the last few treatments I took my slippers, you need to take your shoes off to get weighed when you first get there and I found it comfier wearing my slippers rather than putting my shoes back on. And finally I would say think about what you wear on the bottom half, I had to go for a wee during my treatment and found it really hard to get my jeans back on with a cannula in my hand so preferred to wear leggings or a loose skirt. I didn’t do cold cap but hopefully someone else can help you with that. Good luck x
Thank you sooo much your advice and tips it’s great to hear. I will definitely be taking snacks and take your advice to wear something easy to do up. By the looks of things I might pack a suitcase for the “just in case “. I like to be prepared but it’s so hard when you’re going into the known. My 1st 4 cycles are just over 4 hours then the next 4 are for 8 hours so may get through some books lol. Thank again for your advice x
