New lump in other breast

Hi, I had a lumpectomy and lymph node removal in my right breast in March which was successful and I’m just awaiting 1 path result to decide whether I have chemo or radiotherapy and an appointment with the oncologist.

in recent weeks my left breast has been sore but I didn’t think anything of it tbh, as I have been focusing on my right but it has been getting worse. Yesterday evening I checked it and there is a definite lump there. A couple of cysts were identified when I had my initial tests but they didn’t feel like this  I have rang the hospital and I’ve got to to wait for a 2 week referral again which last time turned out to be 4 weeks.  I managed to keep myself together for the recent op but I’m know I shouldn’t but I’m thinking the worst.  Has anyone experienced something similar?

Sorry for my ramblings x

  • I have TNBC in my left breast, and after many biopsies and MRI, plus only today a PICC line inserted, ready for chemotherapy to begin tomorrow ..... And BAM!! ... A call from the hospital to say I have cancer of a different sort in my right breast ... Chemo cancelled tomorrow and more biopsies on Friday ... I'm NUMB!!

I really do not know what to think .

  • I’m so sorry. It’s a real head . It’s the waiting and start stopping of treatment, which is really difficult to deal with, but I wish you the very best in your cancer journey and treatment xx

  • Oh so sorry to hear about that other issue in the other breast.  It may not be cancer so pray for that result.  I had DCIS in one breast and after MRI found small 3mm IDC in the other one.  Both 100% ER and PR positive so 2 lumpectomies and bilateral radiation and now Anastrazole for 5 years.  In a way I was glad they found it at the same time as I would have been stressed all over again.  Take care and hope results are ok.

  • I am very sorry to read about this as cancer has a way of turning our lives all upside down.  You may have a new plan but I think it is better to find out now even though it sucks.  Hugs to you.  If you read my bio you can see ups and downs but I am on my feet again feeling great except for hot flashes and muscle aches from Anastrazole.  I am 75 now and was diagnosed at 71 almost 72 so gotta keep going.

  • So sorry to hear that you are going through it all over again. I was diagnosed in my left breast 5 weeks ago and the mri showed up a lump in my right, waiting on the results.

It is a very stressful time.  The amount of tests and the waiting can really get to you.

    Wish you all the best.

  • Hi Everyone....

So, I have triple negative breast cancer in the left breast and now apparently estrogen fed cancer in the right breast ... So, an emergency phone call to stop the chemo that was due to start tomorrow, delay for a week they say, pending further biopsies on Friday ...I'm thinking along the lines of Barbara that yes it's better to be spotted now .... But two different types of cancer at the same time in your breasts .... Is that normal?

I'm past crying  ... I'm dazed, and the waiting game is murder .... But pleased and thankful they appear to be ON IT ... Obviously scared .... Wondering how you can treat two different cancers at the same time.

Has anyone heard of this situation?

I am probably rambling, maybe talking silly too .... I'm back to square one again ... SCARED.

So sorry folks, just trying to make sense of it.

    Xx

  • To answer your question about different types of BC in each breast.  Yes it can happen but not common.  They treat each one with the appropriate treatment for example an aromatase inhibitor for the estrogen positive one after surgery.  Radiation too if you have lumpectomy.  It does make it a little more complicated but once the plan is in place it will move ahead. Take care.

  • Wow ... Hopeful Barb..

I have read your story ... Am I right in thinking , you spent weeks backwards and forwards before treatment started.

I was diagnosed in March with a slightly inverted nipple, which has now completely disappeared..... And still my treatment to this day has not started due to constant biopsies, marker clips etc ..

The tumor was originally sized at 3cm ... But now I'm told it's 4cm ... I'm having to travel between two hospitals as one is my breast surgery hospital and the other is purely cancer chemo etc hospital ..

Anyway ... When I say the waiting game, it's been 2 months now since first being diagnosed.

My anxiety is unbelievable at times.

But reading your journey gives me hope and I thank you and everyone else for all the information posted.

  • Hi Basket

Sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with two different breast cancers in both breasts. That happened to me. I was diagnosed with estrogen positive cancer in my right last April, then I was diagnosed with a recurrence of triple negative breast cancer in my left breast about three months later.  I had surgery, then chemo and then radiotherapy and I am now cancer free.

Wishing you the best of luck with your treatment.

    Best wishes

  • Oh yes a few hiccups along the way and one thing was my cancers were not aggressive.  Otherwise I would not have been able to do as much research.  Now that I look back my surgeon was right from the start but I went a bit crazy when I had both breasts involved.  I knew I could manage the DCIS but when the invasive tumor was discovered on MRI I didn’t know what to do.  Oh well as my surgeon said on my visit just before he retired that we are all different and some take a little longer to decide.  I feel blessed and have had good care but it wasn’t an easy road at times.  You will get through it too maybe not on the timeline you had planned but don’t give up hope.  Hugs to you.
