Hi peeps,

I get my results of my lumpectomy op from the Hospital next Tuesday. However, I have noticed that my forearm were I had the surgery is slightly swollen. I had a chat with my breast nurse and she mentioned lymphoedema which I suspected and told me this is normal and suggested some gentle massage of the area. I then read that the massage should be done by a specialist therapist.

Has anyone else had this and what did you do to relieve it  - thanks all for any help.x

  • Hi Boobybabe2, just after surgery I was fine. I had a full lymph node clearance. I did my exercises regularly which seemed to help. I use my arm as normal although sometimes it get a bit uncomfortable. I have just recently had cellulitis and lymphoedema so had some antibiotics which helped. My BCN has referred me to a lymphoedema clinic but I’m waiting to hear from them. It might be worth asking your BCN to refer you. I also do my exercises from time to time which seems to help and reduce the swelling.
    Wishing you all the best

  • Hi Cuffcake2000,

Thanks so much for replying to me. I have been doing my arm exercises since the day after my op. I also use my arm as normal, although I’ve been told not to lift heavy items.

I’ve found the massaging helps, but will point this out to my bcn on Tuesday. Fingers crossed and hoping for the best. Thanks again and love and hugs to you.xxx

  • Hi, I was referred to the “late effects clinic” and they showed me how to do the lymphatic drainage massage which I now do by myself.  I do think it helps to be shown how to do this.  Best wishes
