Hi all
been on here a few times ..mainly commenting on others’ posts!
Today I’m after some help! Having a blip this morning …
Her+ & just finished my 6 cycles of chemo…. Advised I still have to have a mastectomy… had 3 options … go flat or, reconstruction (with/without nipple)… Having initially made my mind up (literally lying there on scan day) that I wanted recon without nipple (my mass was very near to it so surgeon said high risk of not getting good margin of nipple left ).. I’m now of course researching the down sides or potential complications of reconstruction & I’m now panicking …
I should say I’m quite small chested, small build and want to get back to triathlon training … so I’m also reading about the position of the implant (under/over chest muscle)!! I have a friend who’s glad she chose recon & has had a great outcome (I know they will never match ) so that gave me hope & I know everyone is completely different but just wondering whether anyone else on here had the same apprehensions but still had the reconstruction (or not!).. I’m not sure if I’ll need radiotherapy after ether as that obviously depends on post op biopsy…. That can affect the implant too I know …
sorry that was quite long winded ..!!
thanks for any thoughts!

Hi Teddy - at the moment I’m focused on getting the treatments out of the way plus since I’ve got 15 sessions of radiotherapy (ct planning scan next week so nearly there ) one side effect of this was damage to the reconstruction so I opted to go flat for the time being. Once that’s out of the way then I will look into. I do know someone who had the smx like myself but 5 years ago and she is looking into it atm - she finds it an issue with clothing and I do notice myself if I wear a vest top there is a gap where it gaps even if I have my softy in my bra x
I had a bilateral mastectomy I didn’t want reconstruction at the time of surgery just wanted all my energy on recovering. I had planned to be reconstructed in the future but having lived with a flat chest for two years I prefer it , the freedom the lack of back pain I do not miss them at all.
Hello, I cannot speak from personal experience as had lumpectomy but if small breasted could they do fat transfer only with no implant. Here is a link for you to read
Take care and wish you the best. If I had needed mastectomy I was going look into this as small breasted, only 34A and I am slim too but those plastic surgeons can always find fat.

Hi Teddy24,
I'm booked in on 24th January for a lumpectomy on my left breast and lymph node clearance and masectomy on the right breast. What a birthday I will be having! I have said no to reconstruction as, like others have said, I want to concentrate on my treatment. Whether I change my mind at later date, who knows but I doubt it. If I do, I still have the option at a later date. Do what's right for you- good luck. X
Thanks Barbara… initially been told it wasn’t an option but will look at this again..! Cheers xx
