Hi,

Can anyone tell me why paclitaxel 12 times weekly is generally the preferred way to go rather than 4 3 weekly doses of docetaxel? I hear it’s easier to tolerate, why is that? I’m about to have round 2 of 4 of EC next week and have been told I can choose which to have if I’d rather not have the weekly chemo. I’m ok to do it but just looking for peoples experiences. What are the side effects of paclitaxel like? I’ll be having it with herceptin if that makes a difference. Is recovery as long as with EC? I feel like I’d only just recover and then be going again. Thank you

  • Hi

I had 12 weekly rounds of paclitaxel after I'd had 3 cycles of EC. I didn't have any side effects on paclitaxel whereas EC had made me feel under the weather for about half of the three weeks.

  • So you didn’t get the exhaustion at all on paclitaxel? Did you have any issues with neuropathy?

  • No, I didn't get any exhaustion. I always felt tired the evening after I'd had it but woke up the following morning as right as rain.

Neuropathy was the one thing that really scared me but again, thankfully, I didn't experience it.

  • Hi Picklesmh, I had 4x EC followed by 4x Docetaxel. I found EC much harder than Docetaxel. I did have some side effects but all were managed with drugs. After my cycle of docetaxel I would have the first week off work due to tiredness and mainly the side effects of having filgrastim after that I was back at work until my next cycle.
    Wishing you all the best.
