I am due to start chemo on wednesday.I just wondered about how long your first session lasts. My mother in law is coming with me & wondered if it's best for her to drop me off then pick me up,she says she wants to wait for me but not sure if it's going to be too long for her..Advice welcome on ppls first chemo.big hugs everyone.x
Hi New2this
The length of time spent in the chemo unit particularly your first one depends on the number of infusions you are having and whether you are doing the cold cap to preserve your hair. You can be there for about 2 to four hours so make sure that you bring something to keep yourself occupied while undergoing treatment. If you haven't already you should your chemo unit to make sure you are allowed to have someone with you.
Best of luck with your first chemo and hopefully you won't have too many side effects.
Best wishes

for mine which was AC similar to EC it was about and hour and half to two, they start u with anti sickness meds, let them settle in and then wait for the drugs to be made ready, the infusion is about an hour. but then prep and waiting and then flush at the end, good luck, are u starting with EC?
taxol is much longer
and yes if cold capping much longer
Hi! sorry you’ve had to join here … I’m fairly new too..just had 2 chemo sessions so far ! Hope you’re ok..
It does depend on a few things ..do you know what chemo drugs you’re having? Also are you going to try the cold cap ? That can make the session longer as you have to keep it on for an hour or so after the session finishes.. If you don’t live too far I’d probably say get dropped off & picked up when you’re done… x
Ps I’d you’re having the cold cap take a nice fleecy blanket with you & some cosy socks etc!
good luck & bigs hugs back x
Thank you for your reply fellow fighters.I am having paclitaxal. Not having cold cap, also herceptin. Got all my supplies for the session, was more worried about my mum in law as she is in her seventies. At Blackpool Vic there is a waiting room ppl can sit in,just didn't want her waiting too long.We got 12 week of chemo every week,it's a lot for her but she wants to be there.bless her.xx
Good luck with your chemo and your mum in law is wonderful. She wants to feel needed too and she will be great support to you.
