Good evening new to group. On 31st July I had lumpectomy and 3 lymph nodes removed I had the op at one hospit due to high blood pressure from being on letzodine. The consultant at the first hospital has recommended chemo and radiotherapy and to change tablets to another type but said its up to new hospital to decide
. I've been on zoladex and letzodine for for 3 months already . My mum passed at 43 due to having breast cancer then it spread to bones . I've been told my next treatment may not start till October I thought I woukd be having some sort of treatment before then .I'm waiting on the gentic tesing to see if I can have the gene test but been told I'm on waiting list for that too. I've had to take time off work as I'm drained from the letzodine .
Hi Jojo12
i hope I can help I had a mastectomy end of March 2023 I started my chemotherapy 1st june 2023
perhaps they need to wait for your genetic test to come back before they decide which treatment plan is best for you
Hopefully there is someone here that can give you more advise.
take care x
Thank you for your reply.
The gentic test has not been done yet they only took family history I'm on a waiting list and that could be upto 5 months wait . I thought I might of heard from the second hospital by now . When I phoned the hospital last week they said i haven't been disused yet and I will hear in near future when I asked how long roughly thats when they said maybe October. Which will be 8 weeks since my op was done I know everybody's treatment is different .
Hi Jojo 12
Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear that you were diagnosed with breast cancer. The reason why there is a delay between surgery and the beginning of treatment is to give you time to recover from the surgery. It's not unusual to have to wait for six to eight week for treatment to start after surgery. While chemo is doable you do need to be in the full of your health for it as the last thing your oncologist wants is for the cure to be worse than the disease.
Hope this helps and wishing you the best of luck with the next phase of your treatment.
Best wishes

This information does help as I've only spoken to the consultant after op and he said its down to next hospital to do next lot of treatment. I thought that they might of called me with some sort of plan going foward but as said I've heard nothing if I didn't phone I wouldn't even know about October. I just thought that there would be a bit more conmuccaion between myself and the hospital or at least be told it was only be that wait in-between.
Hi Jo Jo 12
i almost sure my treatment had to start 12 weeks after my operation but don’t take my word at that. I will say before my chemotherapy started I had a full medical check up even a nuclear heart scan to make sure that I my health was good before I had chemotherapy but the chemotherapy is tailored made for each patient.
Thank you for reply
I'm not sure if I'm having chemo as of yet as all I know is the first hospital recommend Oncotype DX to be sent off but it was up to the other hospital to discuss and see if they don't then I be having radiotherapy so at the minute as said I'm not sure of what the next steps are I've not heard anything from the second hospital its been 3 weeks since I was referred back to them by the first hospital that did the op .so hopefully I will hear soon of my next treatment plan as I woukd just like some information .
The oncotype test will help inform your team as to best treatment going forward. There will be a multidisciplinary team including oncologists nurses and surgeons that will meet on a certain day every week. I had the oncotype done after my op and even though it was successful and got all the cancer my oncotype score came back as 29 which meant chemo was recommended as well as the radiotherapy I was expecting. Bit of a shock as I had been told I was cancer free but we decided to do whatever was needed to reduce risk of recurrence. I'm now nearly a year post op but have had both my chemo and radiotherapy.
