Hello, basically what the title says. I called 3 weeks ago they said “you’ll get an appointment this week” I called 2 weeks ago “The doc hasn’t come back to us” I called one week ago and went over today “The doctor is deciding”
What is the doc deciding? I have had no tests to see if the chemo worked. No consultation to discuss the surgery. Absolutely nothing. Not a peep. Shouldn’t surgery be done a month and a half about after chemo? They haven’t even scheduled tests. I’m afraid they’ll delay it for months. Can they? Isn’t there a timeline like there is to start treatement?
I went over to the hospital today -decided my ‘they-know-what-they’re-doing’ attitude had reached its limit. They said they’ll mail the doc who is… deciding. No test to wait on. Nothing. 5 weeks deciding. What’s going on?
Im stressed after all the hell of chemo that I’ll get worse cause they forgot I exist.
thanks for listening
Hi Brian 69,
sorry you are having this, I found the waiting between treatments really stressful. Have you tried your Breast Care Nurse - I know some are better than others. I got in touch with the PALS department at our hospital after a delay in my chemo starting, they were very good and got everything sorted for me.
Gillie x
Thanks Gillie, the waiting is indeed the worst part. I’ll go back tomorrow and see if the e-mail to the doc has had any result otherwise I’ll call PALS. The hospital I’m at doesn’t have a face to face so I have to call at working hours. Glad to hear they sorted things out for you. Makes me hopeful. Thank you
Edit: Unfortunately I haven’t been able to contact by nurse at all. Every time I had an issue she was not available and I was calling the general Macmillan line. Thankfully they were very helpful.
Hi, gosh … that has gone very quickly! I remember when you started chemo! Mmm … this does look like a delay, especially when you aren’t aware of other important information. Did you have MRIs alongside your chemo - mine were every two cycles. They gave the oncologist an idea of how the chemo was affecting the tumour. My surgery was exactly 2 weeks after my last cycle of chemo, which would have been 5 weeks after the last infusion (they were every 21 days). I was given my surgery date in the middle of the last cycle. Admittedly my bloods were good enough for them to be able to do this.
I think you are right to contact PALS in the absence of any other contact.
Hey Cloudier! Yes Time does go by! How are you doing? I finished the chemo and luckily it was better than expected. Minus some hair and some nails and a few injuries to my veins but otherwise in one piece :)
I only had 1 MRI after the 3rd cycle. No other tests other than the blood test before chemo. Your team sounds great btw. I have no information at all
I’m definitely contacting PALS if they don’t give me something solid tomorrow.
Yes, that’s it. I would do that. I’m ok thank you. Your hair and nails should start to recover soon. My hair came through white initially, but two years on it is now dark again. I did have a good team .. that is true, and I am grateful. Take care lovely xx
Just leaving an update here for anyone browsing in the future. Somehow my case seems to have been forgotten and nothing had been done in 5 weeks. No referral, no tests, the doctor didn’t even review my file from what I understood. I had called 3 times asking about it and was told they were ‘waiting on the doctor’ etc. Apparently that was just talk. So… that’s that. If you get a delay between chemo and surgery make sure you get answers. I should have asked which doctor they are waiting for, what exactly is the doctor checking and gone over in person. I thought they knew what they were doing. They didn’t.
I have an appointment with the surgeon next week so it’s moving now.
Thanks everyone and especially Cloudier for your help.
So glad things are finally getting sorted out. You have been waiting and it is difficult to be left without answers. Take care.
