So in September last year I had a lumpectomy and then had eight rounds of chemo with two weeks of radiotherapy which finished at the beginning of April, the consultant, although they didn’t do a scan, said the lumpectomy gave clear margins, and there was no reason to believe that the chemo and the radio didn’t work so I was cancer free.
However, this week I’ve been diagnosed with a brain tumour and they are saying the likelihood of me having another primary cancer is rare so they think it must be secondary and therefore my cancer has come back. It seems hard to believe to me. Has anyone else been in this situation?
i’m still waiting on scans so don’t know anything for certain yet and know all of this is speculation but anyone’s experience would be gratefully received
That's so hard to accept. My surgery was in Dec. No chemo just Radiotherapy, 5 sessions. That's the problem, we have to believe them and trust. They dont know everything. I just try to enjoy the life I have knowing that it could come back. I know some who have had BC twice. Fingers crossed for you they can do something to help.
i think it was within a year or so, as she went through a whirlwind of things, she told us about the bc but i remember we went many months not seeing her as she kept the second one to herself as much as one can.
sending you any kind of emotional support one can online.
yes you do think. well isnt the chemo suppose to do this?
on an aside a family friend had brain tumours and the did radiation and i think they shrunk them all on her.
try not to over google, try not go down the rabbit hole. hugs
I am sorry to hear this. I had a small, early stage breast cancer excised in March 22. Clear margins, no lymph node involvement. I had 24 weeks of chemo and then radiotherapy, finishing in Nov 22. I had a scan to confirm a diverticulitis problem in August 22. It took 7 weeks to get the results, but they revealed a suspected cancerous lesion on my liver. It was subsequently confirmed by biopsy to be a breast cancer secondary.
My cancer is TNBC, it’s grade 3, the original tumour had vascular invasion, so joining it all up, I was probably metastatic ‘de novo’ but just didn’t know it. I wouldn’t have had a scan had it not been for the diverticulitis.
Hi Sabrina22 I’m not so worried about the breast cancer coming back as I know that that’s treatable, but I’m very scared about the brain tumour the survival rate isn’t high, and some are just not treatable at all. It’s going to be the longest few weeks of my life.
Hope you are recovering well from your treatment. Glad you didn’t have to go through chemo it’s not fun!
she is still ongoing, but has had good results, hang in there. don’t cross any bridges until you know where they lead. hugs
Oh I hope in your case it is treatable. Russell Watson the opera singer had surgery more than once I think. It is scary though.
I don't worry about myself too much, I am 66 now. I was a health professional all my life, not easy being a patient though. I worry more about my son and his Epilepsy which has not been helped that much by the anticonvulsants. I insisted on him being referred on which made the local services sit up and give him a service. Xx
