  • Black nail varnish to protect nails during chemo, is this a thing?

  • Hi , my BCN has advised me to wear as dark a nail varnish as I can. She says it hopefully helps reduce nail changes x

I have put on a very dark purple x

  • Oh that’s interesting, like the idea of dark purple. Are you supposed to wear just for the chemo or all the time. I find if I wear nail varnish my nails become weak anyway. Which would defeat the object!

  •   , I think maybe all the time, but I will ask chemotherapy nurse when I go.
My BCN said it was to reduce the amount of UV getting to the nails, so I’m assuming all of the time.
I Will try anything to help

Hope you are doing ok x

  • Does anyone else struggle with really achy bones and generally feeling spaced out? I don't feel quite with it and this is day 6 after my first chemo. I struggle to get comfortable as my throat and neck often hurts whichever position I sit or lay in. I've been sleeping most of today and not sure if that's normal. I've felt this way the past 2 days.

  • Might be worth watching your temp and giving your red card nurse a call. Doesn't sound right sleeping all the time. They might decide to send you for bloods to make sure you aren't neutropenic.

  • Holland and Barrett do it. I've had some as a gift for my birthday

  • No I haven’t used coconut oil. I did use it when I had hair, it used to make it lovely and soft. Now it’s sitting on the shelf waiting for my hair to return Blush

  • Hi Tabbycat, I used to get really sore bones, muscles and skin when I was on EC. It was more noticeable after I had done my pegfiligrastim injection. I would feel rotten until about day 7 then that was the turning point and I’d start to feel more like myself again.
I would double check with the hotline to make sure all is ok. Also as like F1 petrol head says also keep an eye on your temperature.

  • Hi all,

I’m starting my chemo on the 19th May. I’m having my PICC line fitted before the chemo cycle. I’m having EC for 3 cycles and then 4 cycles of Paclitaxel. I’ve been told that I will have to inject myself after my chemo cycle is this what everybody has to do? Is the sickness really bad as that’s my biggest problem I cant cope feeling sick or being sick worry I’m a wuss lol
