Hi There

I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer back in January after 2 inconclusive biopsies and a lumpectomy. Since then, I have had 2 wider excision biopsies to determine the treatment needed. It appears I am HERS2 positive and Oestrogen positive.

My journey started on 3/11/22 and I have eventually got a plan of treatment. 3 rounds of EC, 3 rounds of Docetaxel and Trastuzamab. and then 15 Trastuzamab injections every 3 weeks.

Does anyone have any experience of the Trastuzamab injections. An injection every 3 weeks will obviously go on a while and I was just wondering how people have coped with this regime.

  • So sorry ! My finger accidentally touched report button Dizzy faceDizzy

  • No worries Hmfm I have done the same thing myself x

  • Hi Sally. I had exactly the same treatment as you last year along with 19 sessions of radiotherapy which finished last September. Thankfully the chemo destroyed the cancer.

I had 15 of the injections with just 2 more to go. I have had no side effects at all with the injections every 3 weeks. I just kept a journal and found it helped to just countdown each part of the treatment. I am now more or less back to my normal life and my hair has grown back to.

Wishing you the best of luck with all your treatment and believe me you will get through it.

    Xx

  • I have read that a side effect of herceptin is hair loss. Please could people share their experiences - did those who lost their hair experience regrowth whilst having herceptin? Did those who hadn't experienced hair loss during chemo retain their hair during herceptin treatment? I've been told ill have to have herceptin 3 weekly for a year and am terrified that I won't have any hair at all for all of this time. Thanks in advance x

  • Hi RJK, I’m  having Phesgo every 3 weeks for a year. This is a combination of trastuzumab and pertuzumab. My hair started growing back whilst I was on docetaxel and Phesgo and it still seems to be growing. My friend had herceptin for 6 months and her hair has grown back beautifully thick and curly.
I have my fingers crossed all goes well and your hair starts to grow .

  • Hi, I had Herceptin 3 weekly for just under a year. I wore a cold cap for chemo and lost maybe half of my hair. I did not lose more in the year I had Herceptin rather it began growing back. My lashes and eyebrows were a bit slower. and even 2 years on they aren't as I remember them pre-chemo but fortunately, my hair is. The injections were very easy, nothing like chemo, and the only effect on me was a perpetually runny nose which no one accepted was a side effect but since it went within a couple of months of finishing the injections I am pretty sure it was.

Please don't worry. I am now in my 70s and get compliments on my shiny thick hair - can't say the same about the rest of me but my hair is still good.

    Good Luck xx

  • Hi

I have had nearly a years Phesgo injections with just one more to go. I have had no hair loss issues with this. My hair started growing after my last chemo and has come in nice and thick.

I would say my nails are still very brittle so I keep them short.

Hope this reassures you. Best of luck  xxx

  • Thanks for your replies everyone xx
