Hello very new to this and after some advice!
Diagnosed end of December with breast cancer I've had two surgeries and had an appointment last week with my oncologist who has recommended chemo, I've since received two pre assessment appointments for next week one Tuesday and one Wednesday and was just wondering what happens at these and why I have two? The 2nd appointment says new patient assessment to start EC-T I'm wondering is this for bloods and checks to start chemo pretty soon after? Oncologist just said it would start in 'probably a couple of weeks time' and this was last week. Any advice would be much appreciated.
Hi Limpy rightie
Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear that you were diagnosed with breast cancer. The pre-assessment to start chemo is for bloods and checks to make sure that it alright for you to start chemo. If they haven't already done so they will take your weight and height to make sure that they give you the right dose of chemo for your body type. They also do a heart trace to make sure that your heart is able for chemo.
Wishing you the best of luck with your treatment when it starts.
Best wishes

Hi Lumpie Rightie, my first appointment was a general talk to discuss everything and for my oncologist to find out exactly what I knew about my type of cancer. My second was to do bloods, check heart, weight etc plus sign a consent form for the chemo and go through all the possible side effects and to explain if I had any to make sure I spoke to him or my chemo nurses straight away so things could be sorted.
Wishing you all the best on your journey.

Thank you for the advice cuffcake could I ask how soon your chemo started after the appointment with all the checks?
Thank you for your advice yes I was immediately weighed/height before I even saw my oncologist for the first time so I knew what was coming! Just wondering now how soon after the checks will the first chemo be.
Hi Lumpy rightie, I had my first oncologist appointment on 24th Nov the second on 29th Nov and chemo started the 6th dec, so 2 weeks from my initial oncologist consultation. If you want to click on my name you can read my journey so far.

I saw my Oncologist on a Wednesday, signed consent for Chemo. The following Monday I had a phone conversation with chemo clinic just to talk through everything, Tuesday Morning Bloods and afternoon PICC line was inserted and Wednesday I had chemo. It all happened quite fast. Although I guess all trusts are different as I didn't have any heart checks.
