I’ve just received an email from NHS saying if I get covid I should report it early and the NHS will contact me with information about treatment. This is because I have a certain health condition according to my medical records which means I could be very I’ll if I get covid. The NHS will send me a box of lateral flow tests in a week or two.
has anyone else received such an email and should I be doing as they suggest. Also, should I be worried that I’m taking Abemaciclib if I get covid? I’ve never had covid and am now scared.
I got the same letter. I have requested the LFTs. I am on Letrozole, just finished radiotherapy. I thought the treatment is for those who are immune suppressed previously. Maybe they have changed that? I have had Covid last year. My son had it recently, I wore the mask a lot and kept windows opened. It is scary until you have had it. I am fully vaccinated and hope not to get I'll. I do d get the fatigue last time. Fingers crossed.
I wouldn’t worry Mibby There are quite a few on here who have received this notification it seems to be coming out as standard for instance I finished treatment in Dec . Surgery was in 2019 with chemo finishing as first lockdown started . I was lucky haven’t had covid and am fully inoculated.
I received tests and can now order if needed .only other health condition would be type 2 diabetes .
Hubby has also received it he would be classed as vulnerable because of age and Rheumatoid Arthritis .
Remember it’s up to you if you want meds .
Thank you Margaret. As if we don’t have enough to be worried about. It’s good to know it’s a standard thing but I really wouldn’t know if I should receive the meds. So much poison going into tge system at tge moment. Thanks for your reply, it helps. X
It might be because we have had radiotgerapy that we are classed as vulnerable.I think what happens is if we register a positive covid test we will receive an anti vural drug within 24 hours. This is supposed to reduce the impact of the covid virus. I also read recently that those classed as vulnerable may be offered a booster covid jab from March. Not sure if we are included in this.
I’ve been treated with both the antibodies and the antivirals as I’ve had it twice. As I understand it taking these drugs have reduced hospital admissions by a huge amount, I think it was circa 80% the nurse said to me. I think they’re offered to most of us on here x
I’ve just got one too and was puzzled as I’d asked about this during chemo when I felt vulnerable but now after radio and starting on Letrozole and Abemaciclib I suddenly get this letter. I wonder if they are playing catch up if we’re all suddenly getting them. I’ve not had Covid either… I’ve sent for the lateral flows…
I had one too, they appear to be standard letters to ensure those who are now considered to be extremely clinically vulnerable for covid are aware of what to do and have free tests at home. I only had my diagnosis a week before Christmas, and then went overseas for 6 weeks, so am only just back on the treatment tracks! I am testing every day for my work anyway, but it’s good to know this information as we need to organise a work risk assessment to ensure I’m not doing anything in the workplace that puts me at additional risk.
Hi Mibby, I know a couple of people who have had the anti viral drug and it seems to have worked for them in a very short space of time taking it. I guess everyone is different and we all react differently. It is hard to know what to believe as things on social media can get taken totally out of proportion. Only got to look at them saying about the salad situation and everyone has gone mad buying salad. If they hadn’t of said anything people would have just bought as normal and I don’t think there would be a problem.
Wishing you all the best for your journey and avoiding the dreaded covid.
Hugs from cuffcake x x x x x
It's good to inform patients as well as GPs, some surgeries aren't up to full speed with some things. Maybe they have opened it up for cancer patients. It look like it is to protect Hospitals in view of what someone has said above.. Got my free lateral flow tests now.
