I had my lumpectomy and sentimental node removal on 16th February. Just had an appointment through to see a different consultant for my follow up on 15th March, so 4 weeks after the surgery. I believe all being well (clear margins and nodes hopefully ) I will next see an Oncologist to discuss treatment, consent and start date. Seems a long time till starting treatment? How long is usual. I’m sure I read that treatment should start within 28 day according to the NICE guidelines and worrying now about percentages for outcomes if treatment is delayed. Thanks in advance
Hello Natty, I understand that you want to get on with treatment but sometimes there are hiccups along the way. Did they mention radiation?

Hi Barbara, After my core biopsy they initially said I would have radiotherapy and a hormone blocker as is receptive to oestrogen, but not overly expressing HER2 ( so won’t be having targeted drugs) and I would possibly have some chemotherapy, but they would get the operation out of the way first and take each step at a time.
Hi Natty, I read that too. I met a lady who had her operation at the same hospital 2 weeks after my operation, yet we were both scheduled for radiotherapy at the same time. I did wonder if higher risk patients were prioritised for treatment. It was very busy in the radiotherapy department.
Hi Gardinia, do you mind me asking how long you waited for your post op follow up, was it with the surgeon who operated and then how long did you wait until you started radiotherapy? Hope your treatment is going well and you can envision getting on with your life with all of this behind you
So I guess you are a low Her2 which they didn’t used to treat but her is the latest.
This really explains it in detail https://www.mdanderson.org/cancerwise/her2-low-breast-cancer-expert--precise-diagnosis-can-lead-to-personalized-treatment.h00-159542901.html
Take care.

I will have to wait and see what they say on 15th March. Please God it’s the best possible outcome after a long wait
Hi Natty, I had my follow up with the surgeon who then referred me to another oncologist for radiotherapy as that was in a different hospital. So I had another wait built in. I had my op 16 Sept with radiotherapy early Dec. I did wonder if op to end of radio target was 3 months. Hope you are recovering from your op and you get good results. It takes time, waiting and worry, but I feel like I am through it now x
