Hi all I know this is a personal topic so hope nobody will be offended by me asking

i finished chemo may 2021 am on Letrozole for the next 10 years

having intercourse with my husband has been really painful I assumed it was because I’d been fast forwarded into menopause and only recently found out that chemo can actually damage our vaginas

i don’t want to use oestrogen based but have just heard of Desiral has anybody else heard of it or had it done?
a local company is offering it as a free service to cancer patients

  • I hadn't heard of Desiral, but I am finding that Activ Balance moisturising / menopause pessaries 2-3 times a week are helping far more than the ones that i got from my GP, and they are hyaluronic acid based. when I read up on that, it is supposed to be just as effective as hormonal local creams. Maybe the Desiral treatment has an even better effect. Sounds like it is worth looking into

  • Looking forward to seeing the replies on this one - my husband had just had a prostatectomy for early cancer and that combined with me feeling like I’ve totally shrivelled up is making the idea of trying once the time is right quite scary!  I really want it to work which isn’t a given with his surgery and not mess it up because I’m so sore….

  • I’ve just been doing a little research and think it has hyaluronic acid in it

  • Aw bless you I’ve found it really hard to get information

there is a lubricant called sylk which I think is recommended by Macmillan which has helped a little if you go on there website you can order a free sample but I’ll keep you posted if I have this desiral

  • I have been using Replens, which helps me from feeling dry and uncomfortable but hasn't been much help for intercourse. Sorry, would love to know if there's a magic answer for this!

  • Hi,

I have had a lot of dryness also and tried a few different products.  Replens gave me awful cramping and discharge and yes and sylk didn't work for me. I have found hyalofemme really good.  It is hyaloronic acid based.  I have only just started it and yet to dare trying sex due to past painful attempts but its has definitely helped the dryness for me more than anything else. Haven't heard of desiral, sorry.

  • It could be the Letrozole causing it due to the drop in oestrogen. I had a 3-month break last year, which improved the dryness issue. It's a well-known side effect of low oestrogen:( I've not tried it, but lots of ladies on an ER+ forum I'm on swear by coconut oil, which is solid at normal room temperature.

  • I’ll have a look into that for thanksThumbsup

  • I’ve done a bit of research this desiral has Hyalironic acid in it

  • Hi Rehead1, I saw that it is hyaluronic acid too, which is why I mentioned it in the Acvtiv pessaries and that the research shows it is just as good as oestrogen cream Grinning. You might either want to see if it makes a difference by using pessaries first, or you may be encouraged that others are finding the HA useful! It sounds interesting though, please report back if you decide to have it done
