Hi all,
So I recently had results of my breast cancer op and SNLB, it appears the cancer was in my sentinel lobes too. I have to wait until feb 20th for my appointment with oncology to discuss my ongoing treatment. Originally I was going to have the op then a weeks radiotherapy, the consultant has told me that chemotherapy will need to be discussed at that appointment as well now that they’ve found the cancer in my lymph nodes. I’m wondering - do I get to choose if I have chemotherapy? I feel strongly that I want the chemo before radio - purely because I’m worried sick that one of the cancers could have spread elsewhere and they haven’t done any scans or tests at all to determine whether it’s spread anywhere else - if they say no chemo - am I able to say - actually for my complete peace of mind I want the chemo?
please help! I’m very worried that they found the PR cancer only in the op as originally they said it was only ER.
Do you have a breast care nurse that you can discuss all of this with? Mine has been really helpful ... she listened, spoke to my consultant and both really took on board my needs and wishes when I decided that the recommended treatment plan was not suitable for me. Good luck xxx
I did have one with my consultant but now I’ve been passed to a different hospital as the consultant says ‘her job was done’ so on the 20th I’m under a different hospital - I guess I’ll have to wait until then. I just wondered if anyone else has been in this position.
Hi Trace68, I know this is a difficult time but when you have more information the treatment plan will be more clear. Regarding chemo the OncotypeDX score can help to make that decision. Have sent you a link that will help.

Take care and things will settle down when more questions are answered.

Hi there, I’m in a similar position but slightly different as I’m based in Spain and using Spanish NHS. I started my treatment and had all my tests and op at my local hospital. I’ve now been referred to bigger regional hospital for the rest of my treatment. I’m having my second meeting with my oncologist there on the 24th February. My first meeting with him was on the 3rd of February and that was a discussion re pathology post op and health history plus medical examination. He’s asked for Prosigna testing which will determine what treatment they recommend. It’s looking either chemo plus radiotherapy or hormone treatment plus radiotherapy. I’m hoping the latter but let’s see. If it’s chemo, it’s done before rads. Hormone, he says they’ll do at the same time as rads. He says 20 sessions over 4 weeks. It’s all such a waiting game, I had my mammogram on 5th November after finding a lump. I was initially diagnosed with triple negative but this has been revised after biopsy post op to Stage 1 Grade 2 node negative ER+ PR+. I’ve also had no scans etc I’m sure they will take your wishes into consideration, as far as I’m aware everything is on a recommendation basis and as the patient I will definitely have input.
Wishing you all the best with everything. Hopefully you’ll get your treatment plan soon.
Hi All, my cancer is stage 2 ER and PR. IDC, I'm now taking Letrozole to block the oestrogen what about the progesterone, does it block that too. I haven't heard anything about that. Starting radiotherapy in just under 2 wks.
Thank you and good luck getting to the bottom of your questions. Solve one and another pops up. I'm trying to switch off when I can. I don't want to be thinking about it all the time. I know at certain stages it's hard not to. I have to save some energy for my son who is Autistic and Epileptic. I was beyond tired after his stay at the week end. Xxx
If there's chemo, it is before radiotherapy so dont worry about that at all. I got the impression that PR positive is a good thing - I'd be pleased with that too! Am sorry it is in your nodes, but it can be cured when it is just in the breast and nodes. Keep up hope if you can x
