Hi everyone, I’m new to the group. 4 weeks ago today I found a lump, managed to see my gp the same day who referred me to breast cancer clinic, 13 days later I saw my consultant and had my biopsy, last Wednesday I got told I have breast cancer, today is my mri results appointment and I’m nervous, I know chemo then surgery is a high probability, my head won’t switch off, I feel like my life is on hold, 4pm today can’t come quick enough. Can I ask how long after diagnosis that people started treatment? I am HER2 positive. Thank you for reading x

  • Hi hon, the waiting for results is the hardest part. I had the same as you, waited for results of MRI and biopsies. It seemed like forever (it was a couple of weeks) MRI showed it had spread to the lymph node in my armpit. Consultant then ordered a CT scan ‘to be on the safe side’ - another couple of weeks’ torturous wait! Thankfully it hadn’t spread, so I start chemo this Friday. I was told the lump was cancer on 5th January (initial biopsy taken on 13th December), chemo starts on 10th Feb. Good luck - here if you need to talk x

  • It is a scary day when you go for results. I was booked in for lumpectomy and sentinel lymph node biopsy exactly three weeks from my results. I was lucky as I know some have to wait much longer. The time in between was full of appointments so the time passes quickly. I had to go in a few days before for a tiny marker to be inserted in the tumour, then day before for an injection that they use with a dye to detect the lymph node. Plus a pre-op appointment. You feel better after the op knowing the tumour is out but then the wait for post-op report is hard too. Now you are in the system you will be well looked after. I was amazed at how brilliant the system worked for me. Good luck!

  • Depends on what they find, sometimes you have chemo first then the surgery x

  • Yes, of course it depends on results but treatment should start fairly promptly and hopefully a treatment plan with timescale will be discussed.

  • When I first went to the breast clinic 9th Sept 2021 (dates have stuck in my mind) and was told there and then high possibility of cancer, then had a whole barrage of investigations, mri, more biopsies, CT scan, bone scan, I just wanted to start treatment.  All the tests stressed me out but were essential but at the time I was frustrated.  Finally had all results on 19th Oct and by 22nd Oct started my treatment.  Once all the investigations had been done my treatment followed very quickly.  Mastectomy, chemo and radio all completed by May 22.  All the best for today and I hope treatment is started quickly for you because all the waiting is the worst x
