Hi all
I have my first annual mammogram appointment coming up, post-diagnosis/treatment etc.
The letter I received simply says that I've been booked in for a mammogram, but does anything else happen?
Letter also said it would take up to 6 weeks for results. Surely that can't be right?
Any pointers would be much appreciated x
Hi I've had my first post op mammogram last October. I was invited for my first mammogram but it turned out that I was to see a consultant for the first appointment and then I would be invited later for the actual mammogram. As it was the consultant found fluid in the breast that had been operated on and said she would also arrange a scan for me. My appointment came through for 2weeks later.
Yes I've got fluid in the breast and yes I can have it drained but I've decided to leave it and see if it goes on its own. At the moment it is safe with no infection but was advised of two things if they drained it
1 there would be a hole in my breast which, god forbid, an infection could enter, wax also advised that they would do everything to make sure it didn't
And
2 they could not guarantee they would get all the fluid out and if they did it might come back.
The decision was left to me. I spoke to the consultant and have said I'd leave it but have been advised that if it becomes to much, painful, then I can contact them straight away and they will remove the fluid.
After the mammogram people were being asked to wait in the waiting room for their results.
Wishing you a glowing report. I had mine in August although it had not been a year since all my treatments etc. It was a year since my diagnosis. I live in US so wait was not long as I met with my surgeon soon after my test. Sending positive thoughts your way. It is apprehensive to get it done but part of the post treatment plan.

Thats great news its the anticipation and the feeling hope its all good , and when its over the emotions take over I can still cry at the drop of a hat and all my treatment finished September last year ....we have been through so much and sometimes its the silly things that set us off ....take care X
I can totally sympathise! I had my first mammo post (4) surgeries, 10 days ago. The radiographer was v quick as she did mammo of right breast and said there was nothing showing that gave her cause for concern. Last year they didn't say anything then I got recalled after routine screening and I ended up with diagnosis of grade 2 IDC and DCIS in left breast - right breast was clear. I didn't have chemo or radiotherapy, and a single mastectomy with reconstruction that failed (implants) so now flat and on tamoxifen.
They said I would hear in 2 weeks if recallied and longer if ok. So now I am waiting for results (I really want that letter saying ok) but waiting is horrible, isn't it!
