After having 3×EC which I coped  with quite well I had my first round of Doc on 23/12 and within days couldn't stand . I got a emergency consultation with my oncologist who said it was palmer planter (hand and foot) and gave me medication to help but it still took a week before I could stand comfortably Has anyone else had this reaction

  • Hi Tricia1919 welcome to the forum. I hadnt heard of this before but had a look and apparently it is as a result of a toxicity to specific chemo treatments and can happen but seems to be quite rare.

  • Hi  Sorry to hear you are going through treatment and have had palmar-plantar. I wanted to let you know you are not alone as I also had this with docetaxel. It was really unpleasant and began with a burning sensation which got stronger. I tried a range of creams which I was given by the hospital. It was one aspect of chemo which led to them dropping my dosage by 20%. The dosage drop didn't completely take away the palmar-plantar but it was not so bad and was much more do-able. After the burning my palms and soles of feet peeled as if I had had really bad sunburn! I am glad to say that years later I have not so far had any significant after-effects from the syndrome. I hope you can find some relief from it. If it continues, you might want to talk to them about the dosage in case a reduction would be helpful. Best of luck with your treatment.

  • For the first  10 days the pain was awful like I was walking on glass but once the tablets I was given kicked in it was a lot better.  I'm seeing  my oncologist tomorrow to discuss how we go from here

  • I heard that lots of moogoo udder cream is great for palmar plantar syndrom too - very soothing. And even ice foot baths to soothe the soreness. Really hope you find the next cycle a little easier. xx
