Hi guys,
Has anyone has used 'Treatment Rooms' for chemo bloods?
My first lot of chemo i was told I had to have a district nurse come to my house. I am trying to avoid that again - They came anytime between 7am -7pm. No matter what else i had to do. A bad experience with one led to the unpleasant end of my PICC line
I would like an appointment. Though I know some bigger centres do drop in. I live rurally so it might not even be an option.
II wondered if anyone else had any experience.
I asked my GP who don't seem to do bloods, and they told me my blood form would have to say 'Urgent' on them instead of 'Routine' if the treatment room did them. My blood forms always say Routine. I figured I'd do bloods 2 days before chemo as i used to and that would be fine?
Hi fiddlesticks, sorry you have had problems with how your bloods are taken. I have my bloods taken on the day of my chemo. The chemo nurses in the unit do this for me as I have a port. I wonder if your oncologist or breast care nurse could help and see if you can have them done the same day as your chemo that way it would save two trips to hospital.
Wishing you all the best for your journey and I hope they are able to sort this for you.

I had my bloods done a couple of days before chemo at my local GP practice, by a nurse. The system is joined up (I'm in Scotland) so the hospital bloods show up on your records.
There was one time over Xmas that the GP was going to be closed and getting them done when they were open again was too late and before they closed was too early. I was able to go to the hospital to get bloods that time instead, at the oncology unit.
I always felt very well supported through chemo, this is a stress you don't need on top. If you're struggling with local support, could your oncology unit do it for you?
Hi fiddlesticks this seems like an unnecessary stress & shouldn’t be down to you to find somewhere to get your bloods done. I get mine 2 days before at the chemo unit & is all scheduled for me. I’d def speak to them or your BCN to get help with this. Good luck!
