Triple Positive

Hi I was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer of invasive type following routine private Health Assessment in mid June. All proceeding super fast which is good for treatment but hard to process. I have had lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy. Thankfully not in lymph nodes and clear margins. But pathology tested triple positive to HER2 , oestrogen and progesterone. I will now be starting anti HER2 treatment trastuzumab by injection every 3 weeks for a year with first 6 months combined with chemo. Then radiation therapy and anti hormone tablets long term for 5 years. Its all alot to process as all happened out of blue. I was healthy overall other than menopause and I had no symptoms at all or pain or lump.

I am scared about the treatment ahead and wonder if anyone can share their experience of triple positive or nurses can let me know what to expect.

  • Hi, sorry to hear of your diagnosis and yes, fast is good, but the mind can get left behind.  I had similar chemo and hormone treatment, though I had surgery after chemo.  Have a read of my blog, as it might help give you a sense of what to expect. I am 18 months post diagnosis now, have a busy full time job and coping ok with the hormone treatment.  Best wishes

  • Hi, hope you’re all doing well now.
I’ve found out that I’m triple positive too. I’ve been told that I will have chemo prior to surgery, can anyone tell me what to expect treatment wise and how long it’s all likely to last?

  • Hi, chemo follows different regimes depending in the type. I had 6 cycles of chemo, 3 weeks apart, but Ali know of others who have it weekly. I have to admit, before my diagnosis I had no idea there are different chemo drugs and they're administered differently.

For me, chemo started in March, surgery in August and radiotherapy in October, so the best pat of a year really. This link Chemo blog link might give you some ideas about what to expect from chemo.

    Best wishes

  • Thank you, and thank you for sending me the link to the blog. It’s so good to get an insight and some tips before going down that road. Was there any complications with treatment due to it being triple positive?

    how are you doing now?xx

  • Hi Susie, yes it all happens fast once you are diagnosed !

I started chemo one month after, this took about 7 months. Firstly every three weeks, then 12 weekly doses.

Then a mastectomy followed by radiotherapy 5 months post surgery. So all in all about 17 months. Seeing oncology today for post radiotherapy check and prescription for Ibandronic acid tablets for 3 years, I believe.

    all the best xx

  • Hi I am triple positive, my last chemo was Feb 2022. How can I help xx
