Targeted Chemotherapy

Hi there,

I have just finished 3EC chemo treatments and my next 3 is the targeted therapy.  Doxatexal, one beginning with T ( I think is the new name for herceptin) and the other begins with P.......apologies but I forget the names.

The last 2 EC cycles left me feeling pretty poorly with a lung infection an I've heard horror stories of the side effects of these next 3 cycles. If I'm honest I'm absolutely terrified and that's not me. Even through diagnoses and initial treatment I've faced it with positively but I'm scared and I don't want my wife and family to know how scared I am.

Please if anyone has gone through these targeted therapies can you offer any advice?

Thank you so much xx

  • Oh and would anyone have any recommendations for a head Balm or skin moisturiser?

    Thanks again x

  • Hi

I used Aveena or Moo Goo which were good moisturizers. They did well for me during 15 radiotherapy sessions. Good luck x

  • Janemb.......thank you Pray

  • Yes, so you’re now going into docetaxel (or taxodere) and having herceptin and perjeta alongside. I have now transitioned off the herceptin and perjeta infusions and have a phesgo injection. I found the docetaxel different to the ec but I’d say the two were comparable in the level of unwellness they made me feel, but it was different. I had reoccurring UTIs on ec but not on the docetaxel, I had worse aches on docetaxel. Generally I felt tough throughout chemo but I did manage to cope with running the house and my daughter and I got through it. I just wanted to let you know that yes some women do feel terrible, some women like me feel really poorly but can cope with day to day life, I couldn’t have worked, and some feel by and large ok. I had no significant side effects from herceptin and perjeta so once the chemo stopped I have been able to recover and live a normal life while still having the phesgo. Keep coming on for advice and support, we all know how you feel, good luck x

  •   thank you so very much for your reply. I'm so happy that you're doing so well now. I suppose it's the not knowing and the fact that I tend to maybe overthink things. I've never seen myself as someone who would go into support groups but this group is amazing. Xx

  • It is not knowing and when there genuinely is a huge variation in how people feel nobody can really tell you what it’ll be like for you. All the best x

  • That is so true. It's all wait and see and deal with it as/if problems happen and they may not. Always remember we are all here for support and the oncology team will help and advise you all the way. Take care and good luck with it all. You can do this x

  • Hello there

Sorry that it is here that we meet. I finished the main bulk of the same treatments you are having in March. Still on Zometa 6monthly and aromataze inhibitor (exemestane now). As has already been said, I found the docetaxol different from the EC. I had quite a loose tummy throughout the D and needed to use loperamide every day. I would have some on standby in the house. It is the sort of thing, that if you need it, you need it now.

Don't holdback on speaking to your onc if you get any side effects with which you need help to manage. That is what they are there for. Apart from that, plenty of fluids and plenty of rest, when you can, would be my advise.

For sure I did not enjoy it (but I don't like to take even paracetamol, normally), however it gave me a complete clearance of the nasty gremlin and it was just for a while. For me, so worth it and I hope you get a similarly good result. Take one day at a time and don't over think it in advance.

Use this forum to the max

    Wishing you all the best
