Hi guys. Started EC 2 weeks ago and heading for my second next week. My scalp has had a burning sensation for 1 week now. they told me 12 -14 days after first chemo then i will encounter hair loss. But im trying to figure out a time scale of when to expect it to come out. I'm even afraid to wash my hair as I don't know what to expect. I know everyone is different. Would appreciate some advise x

  • Hi

I had FEC chemo first one on Dec 13th. By New year's eve I had the mad professor look so shaved it off 1st Jan. Strange but once I took ownership of it l felt better about it.

It was coming out a lot over Christmas but just held on.

Take care it is a hard thing to do but if it's what it takes to beat this then so be it.x

  • Thank u. That is my plan too. I am ready with my scarfs and wig.  Just trying to plan school runs etc while dealing with hair loss. I've heard horror stories of it falling out in public or wakening up to a hair covered pillow.  Or it falling out whilst showering .. this has been harder to deal with than my diagnosis.  I'm panicking about my first journey out and people seeing me... even though I'm trying to say that others opinions doesn't matter.. easier said than done Disappointed

  • It is all very daunting I too have a wig and hats etc.

I can remember getting itchy head and getting fed up with hair over everything.

I pulled a strand out to show one of my grandsons and he has it in a little pot beside his bed JoyHeart his brother shaved his head to keep Nan company they worried what his school friends would say bless him. Heart️ I suppose it was the winter months so wore wooly hats too.

I have just finished treatment and hair beginning to show signs of coming back Thumbsup be awhile before I have my Bob back.x

  • My hair started falling out at day 19,  I tried cold capping but my fine hair didn’t stand a chance against high dosage of EC…..it was traumatic to comb it out as was losing strands and lost 50% very quickly, it became knotted and matted so I got it cut short, and now wear scarves & my wig.  I would advise washing hair and keeping it conditioned though - much better than it getting a matted mess/tangle.

Taking control would be the best tip,  and wear your wig with confidence - I wear mine on the school run  (I’ve not told people at school I’ve got cancer and want to keep it quiet until I’m over chemo)   Hope this helps x

  • Hi Ssarah, my oncologist told me straight out that my hair would be gone within two weeks of the first day of chemo. I had that tingling and burning feeling and surely enough on Day 14 two weeks ago it felt extra itchy so I ran my fingers through it and it began falling out in clumps. Cried for an hour, absolutely distraught tears, and then called my hairdresser who shaved it off. I can barely look at myself in the mirror but I’m also relieved it’s gone because it feels like a step closer to the chemo being over. Very best wishes to you x

  • Thanks guys. Got to day 17. Scalp still tingling but hair just practically falling out. Such a strange and daunting time. So shaved the rest of myself. Thanks for sharing all your experiences..  Really helped me prepare for these unreal times x
