ANY one else got positive and negative tumours?

Stage 3a Invasive Ductual grade 2 HER2 Neg & Invasive lobular grade 3 HER2 Positive plus Lymph nodes positive all hormone fed.

I have looked online and I cannot find any mention of people getting both, does this make my outcome look worse as the treatments are so different ?

Just had round 5 of chemo, and its been awful, so poorly, been in and out of A&E with stage 3 kidney failure from chemo.

Surgery to remove all of left breast in March, this was going to be done first but I did not qualify for the drugs on Chemo if this had gone ahead.

Then weeks of radiotherapy, then fingers crossed.

Been looking for a support group I could go along to, but really struggling in area CT3.

  • This does not make your outcome look worse. It can happen that someone would present with two different breast cancers at the same time. That is why they check each tumour rather than rely on checking one tumour only. It is rare, but your team will have seen this before and they would have been prepared for it. I hope your surgery goes well and wish you a speedy recovery!

    Hi

    • Thanks for your response, and I am being very well cared for its just all a bit daunting. Have you come across anyone being both HER2 positive and negative? I get that you can can have two types of cancer, but can find no info on this online or any forum. Thanks so much for responding Tracy
  • Hi Tracy, good to hear you are being very well cared for, and I get it about it all being a bit daunting, especially when it's such an uncommon presentation.

There were some people here who told about themselves getting one type of breast cancer, then later another type. Unfortunately I don't remember their forum names, on a couple of occasion it was in the person's public profile.

I was told about someone who got two different types of breast cancer at the same time, but not a lot of information was given to me and certainly nothing that could identify the person in question, as this was during a discussion with my own oncologist and as part of the context for his answer to one of my questions.

As for finding things online, this is a quote from an American government website: "While uncommon, two or more cancers can occur simultaneously, defined as multiple primary malignant neoplasms (MPMN). Studies show that up to 11.7% of cancer patients can present with MPMN." The full text can be found here: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5468027/  (NCBI stands for "national center for biotechnology information, "nlm" is national library of medicine, and "nih" is national institue of health.) Your oncologist may be able to refer you to further literature, and either Macmillan or Maggie's may be able to help find the right support group, I'd give them a call or drop into one of their centres if you get the chance.
