Hi All
Stage 2 breast cancer and consultant has said 6 months of chemo, mastectomy then radio therapy. I have my first oncology appointment on Wednesday but have only had an ECG and heart scan. The bone and CT scan are on the Friday after this appointment. I am finding this a bit odd? Anyone else done it this way? Also what can I expect on Wednesday please, any help very gratefully received
Hi LisaJDay.
So sorry to hear of your diagnosis. I was diagnosed in August last year and had a lumpectomy and radiothetapy..
If it is of any help, I had a bone scan after my oncology appointment just to give a teference ahead of taking the Letrazole tablets as these can affect the bones.
Wishing you all the very best in your treatment. I only joined this forum last week but it has already provided a huge amount of support for me. I hope you find it helpful too. There are some lovely kind and understanding people on here who have been through similar situationd and can offer advice and support.
Hi there, I had my oncology before my CT scan as the consultant was pretty confident that the CT would be clear. The bone scan might just be a baseline, so they can compare future changes, rather than looking for something specific, so worth asking about it's purpose to check.
I'd recommend taking a notebook with a list of questions and I'd ask things like the type of chemo and frequency, practicalities like how it works at your hospital for chemo appointments (days, times, on own or someone with you etc). I am sure they will tell you every side effect under the sun, but try not to be too worried as everyone seems to react very differently. I do remember being more scared of chemo than of the cancer at that first appointment, but actually I was lucky and it was all easier to manage than I feared..
good luck
Thank you for your reply. The CT scan is thorax, abdomen & pelvis with contrast and a nuclear bone scan? I'm hopeless at this type of thing (I'm the complete opposite to a hypochondriac) so thank you for explaining as I would not even have thought of asking some of the questions that you have mentioned.
I'm taking a notebook in the form of my Daughter! I too am more worried about the chemo (Mostly side effects) than the cancer or the mastectomy for some reason, perhaps fear of the unknow.
Thank you again and I hope that you are on the road to recovery
