Just over a week since Surgery. Is it normal to feel a large lump inside breast? Not particularly hard. Assuming swelling and bruising? Quite uncomfortable.

  • Hi, yes I think it’s normal where the tissue has been ‘rearranged’ and especially so soon after your lumpectomy as I think it can take up to six months for everything to heal and settle down.    I had a large lump too which has now  softened but even now 4 months later have a small lump on scar line on site of original lump.  I was worried so I mentioned it to oncologist who examined me and doesn’t seem at all concerned and said it’s all to do with the surgery and healing. I did get clear margins and lymph nodes and currently having chemo so I think she must be right.

  • Thank you, seeing consultant Thursday so will mention it, assuming he'll check anyway.

  • Hi , good that you’re being checked on Thursday but thought I’d pop in to say that I felt like I had a big stone in my breast for some time post lumpectomy. I don’t mean that there was a hard lump, but that the ‘inner’ feeling was as if a stone was in there, if that makes any sense?! The sensation was there for many months but I was assured it was just the healing process. As a result I slept on my back (having been a side sleeper) for a long time after. I got used to it and used pillows to make it more comfy.
Hope you get ‘professional’ reassurance on Thursday. I think the healing takes a lot longer than we anticipated, certainly true in my case. Love and hugs, HFxx

  • Thank you. Feel as though sleeping is a 'battle ' every night. Can't settle on back, side sleeping hurts my knees/hips.
