I’m 64, diagnosed with breast cancer 23 December 2021. I’m having a mastectomy 21 January. The cancer was found after a routine mammogram. At least it’s been found very early.
Hi
I'm 63 and was diagnosed with dcis last October and had my surgery in December. My cancer diagnosis was a surprise to say the least.
Finding your cancer early is really good and you will find lots of support here especially regarding the practical and emotional stuff.
You have a date for your operation, once I had my date it focussed my mind which helped. There is such a range of treatments, I had a mammoplasty but there are ladies who will be able to offer practical info based on their experience of mastectomy..
Hope you are ok. You are among friends here x
Hi
I had high grade DCIS and had a mastectomy and immediate reconstruction by DEIP. Mine was found also after a routine mammogram so it was completely out of the blue. Although I didn't appreciate it at the time, I was told I was very lucky as the 'cancer' was in its pre-infancy and could be easily dealt with. Apart from the huge op - due to the DEIP rather than the mastectomy part, I have had to have no further treatment apart from having yearly mammograms. All the best for the surgery.XXxxx
Yesterday I had my mastectomy. Feel so relieved the surgery is over. I’ve got a drain and I’m taking co-dydramol tablets every 4 hours. I’m wearing my anti-embolism stockings. No cancer in lymph node.
Thanks for your replies Daiquiri and Moresleep. Nice to have support from friends x
Hi. So glad your surgery is behind you and having clear lymph nodes must be a great relief. Just .make sure you keep your pain relief topped up during the early days.
Also welcome to the joys of the elastic stockings. I will say no more
Take things easy xx
Oh well done.... good news re the lymph nodes and....yes, it's such a weight off your shoulders - put your feet up and allow others to pamper you for a while. Make sure you keep on top of the pain relief, it will only be for a short while. Elastic stockings - if I remember correctly mine came off the day after I got home but I suppose I was shuffling to the loo etc. But, having to cope with a drain must be a real pain.... Take care. XXxx
