I’ve had a lumpectomy, revision of the lumpectomy, chemo and radiotherapy and am meeting my surgeon next month to discuss a fat transfer. Has anyone tried this? I’d really appreciate any tips on the recovery stage - is there anything to avoid / how soon would it be realistic to get back to work afterwards etc. Thank you in advance!
Hi Handbag loverI just noticed that your post has not had any replies yet, as the site is quite busy. I am sorry I cannot help you myself, but my response will bump you up to the first page again and hopefully someone with this experience will be along soon to answer your questions, best wishes
Hi
I have had 2 lots of liposuction and refill as a small 'shape' revision after my DEIP. I only had a small amount of fat transfer - your's sounds its going to be more than this. The first time they took fat from my hips and thighs (no complaints from me there!!) and the second time from the inside of my thighs. Both times it was quite sore afterwards and some really amazing bruising that went through the colours of the rainbow. Both times I needed to take some paracetamol for a couple of days. Also, post-op I wore my post-op support surgical bra (from my DEIP) and firm support knickers. The second time, when fat was taken from my inner thighs, I used support knickers and some old cycling shorts - all helped with the bruising. After the op when fat was taken from my inner thighs I also found walking quite difficult especially going up and down stairs and had to go 'sideways' for a few days. Re your question about going back to work, this will really depend on the soreness and bruising afterwards. After the first fat transfer although the bruising was significant it only really hurt if I accidentally bumped into something etc the second time fat taken from the inner thighs it hurt much more to walk and do things. I shuffled very 'strangely' for a few days afterwards. Please bear in mind my fat transfer was quite small to help in revision after a DEIP your fat transfer could be more although they do like to do a little at a time so as to see how everything settles and see how much is absorbed. I hope this helps a little.XXxxxx
Thank you. This information is really useful as I think the practical side effects are sometimes glossed over - really useful to know how it feels in reality
I finished back in July. I have an appointment with my surgeon next month but my oncologist has said I’m likely to need to wait up to a year for all the lumps & bumps / scar tissue etc to settle before the fat transfer can be done. In the meantime I’ve had fantastic service from Nicola Jane in Chichester & with my bra on nobody can spot the difference. Good luck!
I had a mastectomy back in July and had an expander put in. My skin has gone very thin and I’ve been told I need a fat transfer so that the expander can be deflated a little bit and make it less painful. I know someone who has had the operation 3 times as the fat keeps dissolving back into her body. Has anybody had this done? Is it worth it or am I just putting myself through unnecessary operations. Really confused on what to do. Any tips please.
