Here's a new thread for discussions around chemotherapy, as the existing threads were getting a little long.

Please do let us know if you have any other threads you think would be useful to link here.

  • Congratulations Kas.  I'm delighted for you.

  • Sorry to hear that you've had a reaction to the chemo. Hopefully they'll get to the bottom of it soon.

  • So spoke to a member of my team this morning and my chemo will go ahead next week but will be over two hours instead of one. Because I didn't have my Herceptin injection either,  my last chemo will be on the 9th Feb and not the 2nd as they need to get two more Herceptin injections in with the remaining 5 infusions. I suspected this would happen.

She also said that I would probably start getting some appointments through for radiotherapy to begin, just the initial scan, planning etc as I don't think it will start until 4 weeks after chemo has ended but I suppose they can begin the planning process.

It really feels like I can see a very distant light at the end of the tunnel.

My PICC is so much better than the first one, I can't tell you what a relief it is knowing I don't have to stabbed at every hospital visit now. Let's just hope that I have no more problems and it's all plain sailing from here!

It's nice for u to know where things are at Jac. It really eliminates anxiety for sure. I am glad they've come up with an agreeable plan for u and you remained flexible. I don't know why but am hungry all the time, I blame the rain!

Day 4 slump in energy but trying to listen to body. Did anyone have their period during chemo. Not sure what is normal anymore! Sorry if it's tmi.

  • It’s nice to just chill though, although I know how boring it is to stay inside!

my period stopped 20 weeks ago and I haven’t  had one since! But then I was told I would go into early menopause due to the type of chemo I was having. However we are all different and it may come back who knows.

  • Woohoo glad your picc is behaving! A nuisance having but I know I’d rather have had that then being poked every time! Lol

  • Thanks everyone! Having my Prosecco now! Lol

  • Hi Claud, hope your SE are ok after your first one. Did you get steroids also? If so I believe they can make you hungry.  My days are counting down till my first one. It’s confirmed now I will have Paclitaxel weekly x 12 first then EC. Paclitaxel being more tolerable than EC? Anyway it’s mad to be saying it but I just want it started so it can finish.

  • Hi Moco,I have my pre treatment appointment on Monday which I'm very nervous about,I'm going to be having 4 weeks of EC and then 4 weeks of paclatexel.I think I've almost come to terms with the thought of losing my hair now,it's the side effects like getting a sore mouth or my nails falling off that petrify me .If all goes ok at my appointment on Monday I should start treatment later in the week .I've been told I need to go on my own obviously because of the covid situation. Are you going to be having a picc line?

  • Hi Animal, I had my pre-assessment on Wed. On my own but sometimes I prefer that. They were really lovely and put me at ease. I did get tearful when the took some bloods, think it just felt very real all of a sudden.  I get my PICC line next Tuesday. I’m rubbish with needles anyway and this sounds a bit worse. The nurse explained they numb it all up, will be uncomfortable but not painful. Fingers crossed Chemo starts the next day.  I’ve resigned myself to losing my hair too and wondering about other SE too. As everyone is different I guess we just have to wait and see.  As we are the opposite way round I can keep you posted with how I get on with Paclitaxel and you can let me know how you go with EC.  Is your EC fortnightly?
