Hi you lovely people. I’m at the start of my journey. Been confirmed and get the biopsy results tomorrow. While I was having my ultrasound they found a small mass (so small I couldn’t t feel) in my other breast.  They did a biopsy and put a marker in.  The next day my breast looked as it it were half filled with wine but not much pain. Then last night I found a lump approx 1cm pretty much where the biopsy was and it deffo wasn’t there last week. . Feels like a pea so my mind has gone into overdrive and dr google isn’t helping. I am just getting my head around it being in one. Any thoughts to calm my beating heart xx

  • Hi Valsy, sorry to hear you have found another lump, this is such a worrying time.  I'd take comfort from the fact the lump is pretty much where the biopsy was taken from while waiting for the results.  Waiting for answers has been the worst part of this whole experience.   The only thing that works for me is to control what I can so chase the answers and distract myself.

When do you expect to hear anything?

I finished my radiotherapy a couple of weeks ago and was told I was low risk for recurrence but have now found a pea size lump on my left breast where the cancer has been treated.  The surgery was in July and the lump has only just appeared in the last week or so.  I'm praying it's scar tissue or something from the radiotherapy unfortunately in the absence of knowledge, I have just worry.  I'll be callilng the breast nurse in the morning and getting checked.

This place has kept me sane, well as sane I was before breast cancer anyway.

  • Sorry you’re going through this. My number one advice is talk about it here, the helpline, a trusted friend… and Stay Off the Google! Medical students play a game where someone mentions the most innocuous symptom ever and the winner is the person who Googles something that can kill you - like an itchy little finger, or athletes foot. You don’t want to be playing that game and Dr Google isn’t even qualified! Remember that if it’s breast cancer, the vast majority of us go on to live a long life. It’s usually very treatable. Hope the biopsy result comes soon

  • Thanks for replying. I think it’s just a waiting game. I should find out more tomorrow. I’m glad you are being proactive and getting that lump checked. It’s probably scar tissue but I understand your anxiety. Take care. I’ll let you know how I get on x

  • Hi  I also found a lump after radiotherapy and had it checked. They were only too happy to check and for me it was still fluid or swelling as a consequence of surgery and radiotherapy. Fingers crossed it's similar for you x

  • Hi so sorry you're going through this. My own journey started in February and I am now out the other side. My core advice at this early stage, where the waiting is the worst, is to focus on stuff you can control, keep busy and, as Anabrock says, use reputable websites and stay off Google.  Best of luck in the early days x
