Hello, after my first wide incision op my steri strips were taken off two weeks later by the nurse at an appointment. I have now had a second wide incision in the same place, but my appointment has been cancelled due to lack of staff at the lab for results and will be a total of 24 days until my next appointment. The steri strips are still stuck and it has now been 18 days. Is it ok to leave them be? I have tried soaking in the bath and shower, but they are stuck with a bit of blood and I'm still a bit sore and bruised so I don't want to pull at them. Any experience or suggestions please?
Hello. Was told to leave mine on. They would soften and come loose after shower. I had to trim them but fully came off after about a month. I'd leave alone if you can as it will aid healing. Didnt get post surgery review by nurse at my hospital due to covid measures x
Hello Gazeebo,
I would guess it would be wise to leave well alone, if they are well stuck you don`t want to open the wound, that could lead to huge
problems.
Do you have a community nurse? they do a great job and are expert in wounds and dressings and stuff.
You could also telephone your local chemo unit or the site where you had the operation done.
Hope this helps.
John
Hi, Tired Minion had them on for a month, so I think I'll leave them be and wait for them to drop off. Many thanks for answering.
Hi, many thanks for answering, I'll leave them alone then, especially as I'm squeamish!
