Hi all,
just to let you know that I’ve had my right sided mastectomy and despite the risk of reconstruction being cancelled even as I was wheeled into theatre, I got my implant as well. The op has gone well and they’ve had me on the good drugs. A bit bruised and battered but the plastics team are pleased.
unfortunately I’ve had another chest infection but with IV antibiotics and physio it’s better than last time. Walking around coughing seems to be the treatment.
Im in hospital where they have far too few nurses but I’ve found doing for myself actually helps my recovery - as long as I have the painkillers. I may even be discharged early if things continue this way.
I’m relieved the cancer is out although I have to wait two weeks for pathology and see if it’s spread to the lymph nodes but my cancer surgeon is optimistic.
Currently the expandable implant is deflated but with the pressure dressing still looks like a boob. My drains aren’t draining a lot at all which is great. The nurses gave me a shoulder bag to carry them in.
thanks for everyone’s good wishes and I hope my fellow travellers are doing ok
