I had WLE surgery 6 days ago, just wondering when I should remove the steri strips.  I think the breast care nurse said after 5 days but I didn't want to remove them too early.  She said to remove them after I've had a shower as it will be less painful.  Any advice?  Thanks

  • Hi

i had them on after one of my biopsy’s I lifted the ends initially as they were pulling and I took them off after 7 days. I was like you a little unsure as couldn’t remember what the nurse said. That was fine for me but might be worth asking one of the Mac nurses if you are unsure. I think you know when your ready. Hope it goes ok.

  • I got told off for removing mine after a week and they put new ones on the wound!

  • I think I will keep mine on for a bit longer, I don't want to get told off!!!

  • I just left mine on. One of them fell off by itself after 10 days or so, the other one the surgeon removed at my follow up appointment 3 weeks afrer surgery.

  • I was told not to remove them and they would come off in due course. I did trim the ends as they became unstuck as it was flapping although my armpit was and still isnquite numb so couldn't feel it. Could shower and moisturise round them. Any other dressings on top could come off after 72 hours. Every hospital is different so just go with the flow x

  • Same here. Large dressings which Breast Cancer Nurses checked regularly. I didn't want to mess about with any of them so absolutely left them alone. Dreaded them being removed. They sprayed something on and didn't hurt at all, though I expected it to. Once they were redressed I think, but healed very well. I left it to them.
