Hi All,

I’ve just been told that due to COVID and staff crises I may not be able to have immediate reconstruction with my mastectomy next week. I went through weeks of agonising what to do and now this! Also with the pre op check they had loads of details about my medical history wrong so I worry they now consider me too high risk. I’m off to see a consultant tomorrow so I hope I’ll get some clarity. It’s all so scary!

  • Oh so sorry to hear this, I hope that you get some clarity soon.  Take care x

  • Oh Anabrock.I am so sorry to hear about this. How upsetting for you. Please be very firm with them if they have got something wrong on your medical notes - this has happened to me in different circumstances and I had to be very insistent that they had got it wrong! All the very best for tomorrow, I hope the appointment with the consultant goes well. Ros x

  • Hi Anabrock. Just wondering how you got on at the appointment yesterday? Did you get some clarification ? Hope it went well. Best wishes Ros.

  • Thanks for asking. Apparently we’re still on for the reconstruction next week, at the same time as the mastectomy but if bed shortages are an issue there is a chance they’ll just do the mastectomy. I’ve been given information on both scenarios but the cancer surgeon I saw yesterday was surprised I’d been told the plan might change. I won’t know until the day for certain.

  • I am sorry to hear that there is still uncertainly, although there is a plan. I hope that you find some comfort from knowing what the two scenarios are, even though the decision won’t be made until the day of the operation. Wishing you all the very best. Ros.

I totally understand how you feel , in our NHS trust they are not doing any reconstruction at all just getting the tumors out to keep the lists low . You must feel so anxious I hope you get the right treatment you want. I have decided that I'm not going to have reconstruction I just can't do any more on chemotherapy at the moment I'm 64 , my daughter would have made a difference decision I understand that. Best wishes
