Radiotherapy and back pain - coincidence?

Hi there, in a fortunate position in that the breast surgery was successful and currently have had 10 out of 15 sessions of radiotherapy. I feel tired after treatment, but nothing drastic. Last week I started to have shooting pains across my back, they didn't last long a minute or so and happens a few times a day.  Yesterday was quite painful getting off the radiotherapy table and I now have fairly bad backache.  I am wondering if this is just lying on the hard table but i'm literally only on it for 15 minutes max so can't see it being that.  Is back pain common with radiotherapy for breast cancer, left breast is being treated. I don't suffer with back pain but am wondering if this is normal, common or just a coincidence. Any comments experiences are welcome as always.

  • My radiologists told me that your cells get blasted all the way through to your back, so I would ask them if experiencing that kind of back pain is normal. They'll be able to tell you whether it is related to the radiation and will be only too happy to help answer any questions you have.

  • Thanks, I got myself worrying, so called the Macmillan line who were very reassuring but also said, rightly they couldnt diagnose over the phone.  I had an appointment with the breast care nurse already booked for yesterday so mentioned it there but as it is painful on movement and sometimes on deep breathing, they've put it down to muscular which does make sense.  I just worry more now than before and take more notice of aches and pains in my body;
