I just wanted to ask if you are allowed to have someone sit with you while you have you chemo. I have first session on Monday and had thought my partner would be able to however he thinks nor due to covid, space, time etc. I know all places are a bit different but if anyone can share experiences. Xx
Hi Lfc74, as you say, the situation will likely differ depending on the hospital so best to call your chemo unit to confirm for definite. I've had 5 chemo sessions now and although I haven't had anyone with me - through choice - other patients have been accompanied so it is being allowed at some hospitals. The hospital general policy states no accompanying visitors but it seems that there are some exceptions allowed (maybe just for the first session?), and I saw 2 chemo patients yesterday who had their partners with them so it's worth calling your chemo unit to ask.
It seems to be dependent on each hospital as mine still has policy of no one with you for chemotherapy treatment. To be honest by the time you are set up if you have a book to read and maybe an iPad or phone to catch up on Facebook etc the time soon passes, just bear in mind you can really only usefully use one hand as if you move the hand/ arm with your cannula in it will set alarms off.
