Hi I’ve been on tamoxifen 2 weeks now and had my 1st zoladex last Tuesday. I’ve had a little bleeding like spotting as I would normally have prior to a period. Although my period was due last week. I figured that on this meds there was no bleeding or periods so is this normal? Thanks Blush

Should mention that the spotting has only just happened. Is it possible to still have periods on this medication?

  • You shouldn't have periods on zoladex as it shuts down your ovaries, but it takes about 3 weeks for your ovaries to completely shut down and by that time you have the same level of oestrogen as someone post-menopausal.

I've just read the label as I have my zoladex injection in the house, ready for getting it done this week, and it says the following in side effects:

'Bleeding from the vagina. This is most likely to happen in the first month after starting zoladex and should stop on its own. However, if it continues or you are uncomfortable, talk to your doctor'

I seem to remember starting zoladex about 10 days after my period which was an optimum time for it to stop periods on that first time, but if you were due around the time you started it, then I think the bleeding is OK. Obviously if the bleeding continues or you get it again next time, then speak to your BCN.
