Hi just wondering if anyone else on here has been diagnosed with being HER2 positive and how has treatment been or gone for you ? I’m slightly nervous that I have just been told that I am one of the few that are this . I have been diagnosed with grade 2 breast cancer with some  lymph node involvement .

Hello I am not doing very well and you are the first person that sounds like they have similar to me that has a positive story. I have grade 3 HER2 positive ductal carcinoma that is estrogen negative. I am so scared and having to wait until 23rd November for my op. I am 38 and I keep hearing this means it is fast moving. They are doing a wide local incision and I don't know why they won't just do a mastectomy. I don't get chemo before and I don't know why. Thank you for a small glimmer of hope xx

Hang on in there, I am sure you will be in good hands. I only had chemo before surgery as the cancer had spread into numerous lymph nodes, I went for a lumpectomy because I did a lot of research and the reoccurrence rates didn’t seem much different v a mastectomy. Also as it’s followed up by radiotherapy and herceptin injections for the HER2 this made the chances of non re occurrence even better. Although HER2 is faster growing and spreading the treatment is very advanced now and effective, the herceptin makes the HER2 protein turn on itself and kill the cancer! Keep faith, ask lots of questions, ring your McMillan nurse and get your answers. It’s much easier to try and cope if you understand what’s happening. Xxxxx

  • Hi was yours er positive or negative, I am her2 positive xx

  • Hi I have had one surgery, a theraputic mammoplasty with reduction on other side, the surgery successfully removed my breast cancer, lymph nodes clear same size as yours, but they could not get clear margins on an area of dcis. So after chemo, but while I am on herceptin treatment I am having a masectomy with immediate reconstruction. xx
