Hi. Has anyone developed a catarrh type cough that’s worse in a morning (chest sounds crackly) since radiotherapy? I had the 5 day treatment 12 days ago.

Hi Gwills welcome to the forum. Maybe this could be the start of an infection and if that is the case then you do need to see the GP as you may need Anti Biotics for this. Your Immune system may be at a low ebb for a while which does make you more susceptible to infections so do keep an eye on  things for you.

  • Hi. Thanks for reply. Does radiotherapy effect your immune system. I didn’t realise that. I’ll phone radiology tomorrow she told me to if any issues.

Hi Gwills I think all the treatment we have either individually or collectively over time have an effect on our immune system.

  • I didn’t have chemo just 5 days of radio but wondered if the radio can affect your chest internally. I’m coughing lots of mucus which is clear but it sitting in my chest.
    thanks x

  • Hi, I finished 5 days of RT last week and have had a dry cough for a few days.  I was left side and did the breath hold, they told me that the top of the lung may be ‘hit’ but there are usually no long term effects. Good thing you’re planning on phoning tomorrow though to double check. Hope you feel better soon x

  • Hi thanks for your reply. Mine isn’t a dry cough but I do suffer with allergies. I will ring to check. I’ve felt a-bit tired over last few days and not wanting food but it comes and goes. Had a relaxing day today which felt rather odd as I always have people for Sunday lunch. I’ve got a bone scan Tuesday and hopefully I can then move on …..
