I was diagnosed with primary breast cancer at the end of 2019 followed by lumpectomy and radiotherapy in March 2020. I am now taking Anatrozole for 5 years.

I was started on Letrozole but the joint pain was causing me a lot of problems so I was switched to Anatrozole about a year ago now. The joint pain is a lot easier to manage but now I am struggling with extreme fatigue. Anyone the same or have any tips on how to deal with this?

  • Hi, I can’t help you personally as I am not at that stage yet, but I noticed your post had no responses and had slipped to the second page so this will bump it up. Good luck

Hi, I just joined I can see your post was 3 months ago but I was just wondering how you are getting on with the fatigue.  I was diagnosed in Feb this year, lumpectomy and radiotherapy as well.  I am on tamoxifen.  The fatigue started at the end of the radio and hasn't went away.  I am really struggling with it.

  • A friend of mine is in occupational health and sent me something on fatigue actually in long covid patients but I found it really helpful. I’ll try and attach a link

    https://www.longcovid.org/resources/patients#symptoms

scroll down and just watch the video clips. The essence is, you try to do lots, your body floors you with symptoms and you can’t cope so break the day into ‘activity’ and ‘rest’. It’s really helped me x

  • Hi, It’s been a year since my cancer diagnosis and I’m still suffering from fatigue although it has got slightly better since switching from Tamoxifen to Letrozole and monthly  Zoladex injections. I have the injections to stimulate menopause as I’m premenopausal and the tablets are not sufficient to control the Oestrogen. I felt very spaced out with Tamoxifen and could not concentrate for more than an hour and suffered extreme head pressure and fatigue. I switched Tamoxifen brand and that helped a lot but I still wasn’t coping.  There are a few brands out there so I would suggest trying them first as I think they put you on the generic one as it’s cheaper!

I had to give up my job at the end due to the concentration issue. I’m taking some time out to recover without work pressurising me to get better on their terms. I feel a lot more relaxed and happier and I feel I am slowly getting better but progress is slow and very frustrating.

I’m here if you need a chat - I wish you luck and a speedy recovery. Xx

  • Hi Lily21,

I am on Tamoxifen too and started to struggle with tiredness and headaches. Can you let me know which brands were better for you and i could try them and see if it makes a difference.

    Thanks take care x

  • Hi Maxwell,

I was on Tillomed to start with and felt so ill so I got in touch with my pharmacist who suggested switching to Wockhardt which I did. This brand was much better for me personally. I think there are other brands out there so it’s always worth experimenting.

    Hope this helps.

    Take care xx

I am nearly a year using Tamoxifen and have been suffering with extreme fatigue and just cannot seem to shake it. I am going to speak with my Oncologist about it because I have so many other symptoms too which are now driving me mad - constant runny nose, calf/toe/hand/finger cramps and headaches.

  • I am tired too after chemo and now tamoxifen. I think a lot of it is the disturbed sleep from the annoying night sweats. But also the hangover from chemo and radiotherapy doesn't help.

I heard that exercise can ironically help with fatigue, so am going for a daily walk, trying to run a short distance a few times a week and do a bit of resistance training. The last two are a bit of an effort to say the least and more often than not I do not feel like it. But I do definitely feel better once I have walked or run.

I have to pace myself a bit and have to pencil days out if I have a full on day. Am still trying to find a balance between getting on with life and allowing myself recovery time.
