I have just started IEC chemotherapy and been given anti sickness tablets Ondanstetron and Metoclopramide hydrochloride plus Filgrastim injections, all of which cause constipation. Appetite affected and taste. How do you keep an even keel of bowel movements? Using laxido but a fine balancing act to get it just right. Either too much or nothing at all.
Constipation was pretty awful for me! I finally got it just about right by using laxido the day before chemo as well as the days after. I had to use maybe 5 or 6 sachets a day. For me, the constipation lasted about 4 days, but t was pretty bad! I found not going was worse than going so tried to keep everything moving....! Needless to say, drink lots. y Day 5, my system seemed to sort itself out again. Not sure if it was just the anti-sickness meds or also chemo itself making everything slow down. Either way, my pattern was constipation for 4 days each time but it was definitely better with using laxido, and starting laxido ahead of chemo. I also had senna tablets to take at night which I did a few times
thanks for that. Will bear that in mind for my next chemo. Senna seems to have no effect on me so will stick to the laxido. Big loves xx
I had terrible constipation, but didnt take meds, instead before each chemo I would start a green diet, of Spinach broccoli and fibrous cereals, this kept me 'loose ish sorry to be so detailed, it worked although my taste buds didn't enjoy it I suffered less
Hi there, prior to my chemo I took some advice from a friend who has a long term bowel condition which further requires a lot of pain medication. She swears by a table spoon of linseeds a day in juice/ cereal/ yoghurt/ smoothies. I bought them in but haven't had the need to use them yet but possibly worth a Google to see if it would suit you. When in EC I ate regularly despite the side effects. It was hard work as taste was gubbed but regular helped regular out. And loads of water, I found staying hydrated really difficult but am managing it better as the chemo goes on. Looking after yourself feels a bit like a job in itself and I have definitely had to pay more atty to what my body needs.
hi Lottiejam, does your friend just use linseeds as they are or the ground up variety? I thought I had been drinking plenty of water but perhaps just need more. Been eating holland and barrett fibre chews at night time plus a daily intake of dates, prunes and shredded wheat. Thinking to try the linseed route to see if that makes a difference. You are right about looking after yourself is a full time job. Finding out your limitations on energy and tiredness a bit of a steep learning curve. Thanks for advice, Babafudgex
