Do I keep chasing for results or do I wait?

Hi everyone, I need some advise.  I had my biopsy over 5 weeks ago when they told me it was cancer, official diagnosis on 16th June and I am still waiting for HER+ result to be able to start treatment.  They have said a hold up in Birmingham lab and lots of people are waiting and just keep apologising to me.

They have MDT meeting twice a week so I am on tenterhooks waiting for the call again today but feeling like not going to happen.  Each week I call up myself to ask and am told sorry, didn't get results back.

Do I just keep waiting or is there anything I should be doing.  I know I want the right treatment so should wait but each day that passes I am worried it will be growing. Am I just impatient?

  • Thanks Chelle, good luck hope it all goes well for you xx

I'm so glad I read that, my cancer lump seems to be growing much faster since having the biopsy it's also very hot and very very painful. Had the biopsy a week and a half ago had the results Monday it's a fast growing cancer I'm like yeah tell me about it I can't get a bra around it anymore. Can you confirm if yours was very painful because iv not heard anyone say this

    Take care debi x

Hi Debi, mine is painful at times.  In fact that’s how I found the lump I felt uncomfortable, in between an ache and a pain.
eventually had my HER2 results on Wednesday but they are still inconclusive so they have agreed to proceed to surgery now and will run tests again on what they remove.

I have appointment Wednesday next week, hopefully will have surgery soon.

hope you can start treatment soon too.

  • Do the Her results also give you the ER result because I know mine is ER 8/8 and have been started on hormone meds because of slight delay in surgery, while I waited for an mri to see if I could have theraputic mammoplasty. My mri showed no further abnormalities, my lymph nodes were also fine what they saw and they also showed fine on my scan.  My surgery is on 3rd August xx

    Hi Debi

I'm recovering from a masectomy. Found lump in April was not addressed after mammogram in Feb...biopsy May confusion over biopsy results and referred to Birmingham sarcoma unit. Took 2 and half weeks for them to tell me it is not sarcoma. Have to wait until 11th for results from the surgery. My lump grew significantly consultant reckoned 10cm the week before surgery, it was also painful and the skin was hot and red. Scary! I've been through BC before and don't remember waiting so long for results and treatment plans. Xx

  • Hi, wishing you well with your surgery. Theraputic mammoplasty is where they removed the cancer, I i have 2 areas both small, the other one is pre cancerous cells, they don't seem bothered much about them, the areas are 5cm apart, because I have large breasts, they do it as a breast reduction, I am also having other breast asymmetrical at the same time. xx

  • Hi I found out my HER2 result after my surgery I knew that my cancer was stage 1 DCIS ER+ after my biopsy  they must do it different ways in other places good luck with your surgery xx I had a breast conversing surgery and my nodes were fine also

  • Good luck with your surgery chelle xx
