I had a lumpectomy on 29th April, I did not have clear margins but did have no lymph node involvement.
I now have a mastectomy planned for 24th June, have others had to wait so long between operations? It worries me that as it's still there it could spread to my lymph nodes in this time?
Thank you x
Hi Merlin1664
If you read my profile you will see my operation history - I had my first lumpectomy on 2nd September , subsequent 2 chest cavity shaves to get clear margins for the next 5 weeks (still not clear) and then a mastectomy the following April. I needed chemo so had that after my initial 3 surgeries, and before my mastectomy. The team who are looking after you will work out the best possible scenario for you and won’t leave you if they feel your health will be compromised- I know when I had my last cavity chest shave surgery I couldn’t have had a mastectomy at that time , which is why I had it after chemo had finished.
When I had my mastectomy the pathology showed no cancer , so just because there aren’t clear margins doesn’t mean that there is even any cancer left, and if there is it is probably only very small traces. I can’t see if you have filled in your profile so not sure if you will need chemo or radiotherapy, all these things feed into your treatment plan.
