I am 2 weeks post radiotherapy and when I asked about creams at the hospital and they said use nothing. They didn't seem to know about R1 and R2 cream either.
I seem to have developed a rash on the breast that had treatment which is itchy - when I put cold water on it it feels easier. Anybody else had this rash?
Thanks
Aqueous cream is good to use as an alternative to soap also as a cream or aveeno cream is also good too hope this helps you and your rash I'm due to have radiotherapy for a week in July as my chemo finishes in 3 weeks so I shall be using some cream also aloe vera gel is good to use to sooth regards Belinda xx
I finished 2 weeks of radiotherapy a month ago and was told by the radiologists that applying cream won't stop you getting a reaction, but keeping the area moisturised does prevent the skin during out and causing itching, I was more itchy 2 or 3 weeks after I stopped but I had been applying Aveeno from a few days before treatment and it did really help. I'm still applying it twice a day as they told me your skin and other cells don't heal fully for about 6 weeks. Apparently, the radiation peaks at 2 weeks after treatment, which is maybe why you're having issues now.
Try some Aveeno or E45 and that will hopefully calm it down. And try not to itch! I know that's difficult.
How long does this prickly heat rash last after radiotherapy?
does it always totally clear ?
Hi
its usually reaches a peak two weeks after the end of treatment and then starts to resolve over the following two weeks.
Taking an antihistamine can help with the itch as does aloe Vera gel. Put it in the fridge for the maximum cooling effect
Does the feeling of exhaustion last long
i have only recognised it on day 16 post one week of radiotherapy
Hi
Fatigue is a common side effect. Unfortunately it’s hard to say how long it will last as it affects people differently.
The best thing is to have a healthy diet, lots of fluids and rest and try to take some gentle exercise. It will help you even if it’s only a 10 minute stroll around the block.
If you are planning on going back to work ask for a phased return so you can pace yourself.
